GSAL School Bus Service 2013/14 From September 2013 onwards The Grammar School at Leeds is working with Eddie Brown Tours Ltd to deliver the school bus service. New electronic ticketing system A new electronic ticketing system called the Schools Transport Automatic Register (STAR) has been implemented which means that paper tickets and printed passes are no longer required. STAR enables pupil’s bus passes to be automatically loaded onto their GSAL Smart ID card. Pupils then simply swipe their Smartcard as they board and alight the bus. Junior school pupils who use the bus will be issued with a Smartcard Fob to use. Along with an improved ticketing and pass administration system STAR provides a number of other benefits including: 1. Added pupil safety and security Pupil journeys can be tracked in real time which is a major benefit especially if an unexpected event was to occur e.g. traffic or adverse weather conditions. It also helps to prevent younger pupils accidently getting off at the wrong bus stop. 2. Live bus tracking You will be able to track the location of your child/ren’s Smartcard or Fob via your mobile phone. 3. Emergency event reporting By providing a registered email address and mobile phone number on the booking form, the GSAL transport department can alert you in the event of major delays, road closures, bad weather etc via an email and text alerts notification service. 4. Faster boarding times The new swipe card system enables faster boarding time compared to visual card inspection by drivers and removes potential mistakes. This helps to reduce the stopping period and disruption to the planned timetable especially in busy traffic. The service GSAL operates eleven daily bus services to and from school and five late bus services. Daily services arrive at school between 8:00 and 8:20 and depart school at 16:10. Late bus services depart at 17:45 to accommodate pupils taking part in after school activities. A guide to the school bus routes, zones, prices and how to book can be found on the following pages. Please familiarise yourself with the route, service and zone applicable to you and then use the pricing table to work which type of pass best suits your need. Then fill out the booking form and post or drop it into the transport department at GSAL with a cheque and the bus pass will be processed ready for the start of term. The new buses will be easily recognisable by their Eddie Brown Tours Ltd branding and GSAL signage in the windows.
