Each year the club typically logs more service hours and makes more community appearances than most other NFL teams. Through the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, the team contributes more than $1 Million to promote fi tness and fi ght youth obesity in Georgia. Players, coaches, cheerleaders, associates and the Atlanta Falcons Women’s Association all contribute to making a meaningful diff erence in the lives of others. RUNNING BACK MICHAEL TURNER FALCONS FITNESS FLAG CREW ATLANTA FALCONS YOUTH FOUNDATION League, providing more than $17 million in grants Established in 1985, the Atlanta Falcons Youth to non-profi t organizations across Georgia. AFYF Foundation (AFYF) serves as the philanthropic arm directs the bulk of its giving to combat childhood of the Atlanta Falcons. Since Arthur Blank acquired obesity in high-need neighborhoods in Atlanta and the club in 2002, AFYF has grown to be the largest Gainesville. These neighborhoods are designated owner-funded foundation in the National Football as Falcons Fitness Zones. Through the Fitness ATLANTAFALCONS.COM 2011 ATLANTA FALCONS YOUTH FOUNDATION Zones, AFYF works in partnership with the Metro Atlanta YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, the YWCA of Greater Atlanta, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hall County and other select organizations to leverage and enhance existing physical fi tness programs for youth and to create new opportunities that move kids from sedentary to active. Presently, there are about 50 program sites operating across fi ve Fitness Zones, reaching more than 10,000 youth year-round providing about 1 million kid-hours of physical activity during the school year. Falcons players and cheerleaders make regular visits to the Fitness Zones, where they engage kids in physical activities and emphasize the benefi ts of exercise and proper diet. As role models for many of the children in the Zones, Falcons players and cheerleaders can have a strong infl uence in changing the behaviors that lead to childhood obesity. There are four Fitness Zones in the City of Atlanta and one in Hall County, home to the Atlanta Falcons. Key investments in 2010 include grants to Good Sports, which is supplying athletic equipment to Georgia organizations in order to remove barriers to participation in regular physical activity. AFYF investments also focused on innovative ways of providing low-income families with greater access to aff ordable, healthy food by partnering with Georgia Organics to provide hands-on farming and gardening experiences to teachers and students. Through other investments, AFYF helped launch FIRST DOWN FOR FITNESS the Truly Living Well Wheat Street Garden in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward and kicked off The Food Trust’s supermarket campaign, which will provide loans and grants to independent grocers that are opening grocery stores in neighborhoods where residents currently lack access to fresh produce. Through a grant to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, AFYF helped the fi ve Georgia school districts carry out a pilot of the state’s new P.E. program, including administering FitnessGram assessments to about 100,000 students. In 2010, Youth Weekend included: daily autograph sessions with Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders, “Look Like A Pro” where children had the chance to try on authentic Falcons equipment, receiving a choice of a mini football or pom-pom for wearing a football jersey or cheerleading uniform at the “Show Your Spirit” booth, “Football Flurry” which allowed young fans the chance to win autographed footballs and/or team autographed authentic helmets with “Hats Off ” as well as “Jersey Frenzy” which allowed young fans a chance to win autographed jerseys. YOUTH FOOTBALL The Atlanta Falcons conduct Gatorade Junior Training Camps in schools and parks across Georgia with a special emphasis on introducing youth to the fundamentals of football through basic drills as well as exposure to hydration KEEP GYM IN SCHOOL maintenance. In 2010, 55 camps were conducted across the State of Georgia and an estimated FALCONS FIRST DOWN FOR FITNESS 4,500 children had the opportunity to participate.
