IRIS GROUP PRESENTATION PRESENTATION IRIS GROUP, managed by Nicolas STEIL, brings together production and distribution companies in Luxembourg, France, Germany and Belgium. With its reputation in terms of production and distribution, the group has been a key strategic player in the European film market. The origin of the group dates back to 1986 when Nicolas Steil set up Iris Productions S.A as one of the first production companies in Luxembourg. Iris Group comprises Iris Productions Deutschland in Berlin and Iris Films in Brussels. In 2011, the group invested in Rezo Films, a well-established distribution company in France for over 20 years. The distribution company also operates a production division with Rezo Productions. Over the years, Iris Group has co-produced films with French, Belgian, Swiss, Quebec, Austrian, Italian, German, Dutch, English and Irish partners. Over the last few years, the group has also focused on the production of TV series. Today, Iris Group has produced and co-produced over 100 works, sold over 250 films internationally and distributed over 300 films in France. Paul Nkamani battled his way through the Sahara to the coast of Morocco. This is where Paul and the filmmaker Jakob Preuss meet. Paul soon manages to cross over to Spain in a rubber dinghy. He survives – but half of his fellow travellers die on the two-day odyssey. When Paul reaches Spain and decides to continue to Germany, Jakob has to decide: should he actively help Paul or remain an observing documentary maker? Conflicts between protagonist and filmmaker are openly reflected – disillusioning, unusual, outstanding. The NPD, National Democratic Party of Germany, are hosting their fourth right-rock festival. Thomas Jakob does not want to surrender his home town to the right. He and fellow campaigners “Themar gegen Rechts” (Themar against the Right) want to organise a broad protest. They do not allow themselves be intimidated and counter the neo-Nazi concerts with a town festival. But can Themar really get rid of right-wing rock?     Myths of Nations the Clash of Futures 1914-1945

    Monika Flacke Myths of Nations. The Clash of Futures. 1914-1945. George Orwell: ‘Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.’ George Orwell, 1984. The centenary of the end of the First World War falls in 2018, though we can still feel the repercussions of this momentous event today. To mark the occasion, the Bundeswehr Museum of Military History in Dresden is planning an exhibition on the theme of ‘Myths of Nations. The Clash of Futures. 1914 – 1945’. This will be the third (or in terms of historical chronology the second) in a series of thematic exhibitions on the subject of Nationhood. Whilst the first exhibition, ‘Myths of Nations. A European Panorama’ (1998) looked at nation-building in the 19th century, in the period after the end of the French Revolution and establishment of the new Napoleonic order, ‘Myths of Nations..Arena of Memories’ (2005) examined how the European nations, including Israel and the USA, created a peaceful world order after the great crisis caused by the two World Wars. ‘Myths of Nations. The Clash of Futures. 1914-1945’ is intended to provide the missing link between these two earlier exhibitions and will focus on the deep crisis for the concept of nationhood during this period. Countries: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,.Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia/Ukraine/Belarus/Soviet Union, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,.Turkey, United Kingdom, USA, Serbia/Croatia/Bosnia and Herzegovina/Slovenia (former Kingdom of Yugoslavia). The Concept Nations, in the form in which we know them today, are the product of a process of modernisation1 that began with the French Revolution and has continued down to the present day.
