Photo Gallery e-Newsletter JANUARY-JULY 2019 School of Electronics & Communication Engineering Vol 2: Issue 1 1 Message from Chancellor It gives me immense pleasure to note that the School of Electronics and Communication Engineering has come out with yet another issue of the School Newsletter. The School of ECE has been doing commendably well overall and specifically in the domains of Funding and receiving of grants apart from the MOUs signed with several industries. This goes to endorse REVA’s efforts towards close industry-academia partnership that we believe in and that which we strive for. Research is our next area of thrust and am sure School of ECE has been doing well in the area of research. Our focus is and should continue to be on placing our students and in that direction, it is gladdening to note that the School of Electronics and Communication has been working towards offering various skill based certificate programmes for students. In all of this, we must ensure that our students get holistic education and there is enough emphasis on building their overall personality and ensure that they get adequate exposure to all other cultural and co- curricular activities through various clubs and societies while at REVA. I congratulate the School Director and his team for their relentless effort and work towards directing and navigating the School in the right direction. While assuring all the support towards the School in the years to come, I wish the team of ECE all the best and look forward to further accomplishments from the School! God bless! Dr. P Shyama Raju Chancellor REVA University 2 Message from Guest Editor I am very happy to note that the School of ECE has planned to publish newsletter. All the activities being conducted in the School should have coverage in this newsletter along with student and faculty achievements. Hope that the newsletter emerge as the mouthpiece of the School. Best wishes. Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni Vice Chancellor REVA University 3 Message from Chief Editor In recent past, Electronics and Communication Engineering is emerged as bridging course that connects the technologies from Semiconductor Physics and core Electrical Engineering and to the modern technologies such as VLSI Circuits, seamless high bandwidth communication, advanced signal processing, and finally, merging all the hardware devices of these technologies with IT. The structure of the course has undergone a face-lift with the introduction of subjects from computer science and engineering and thereby provides the flexibility for students choose for IT sectors apart from core Electronics and Communication Engineering. Thus, students in Electronics and Communication Engineering have the flexibility to broaden their horizons in software related industries. The advantage for Electronics and Communication Engineering students is that they are required in both hardware development sectors as well as in software development sectors that broadens the area from core electrical engineering to mul- tidisciplinary areas such as robotics, mechatronics, aviation, medical electronics, space exploration, etc. The school of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers B. Tech., M. Tech. and research programs. The B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering is designed to give greater emphasis on core Electronics and Communication Engineering with a flexibility to explore in any one of the four areas like circuits and devices, signal processing, communication engineering and programming where in an ample number of courses have been included that provide knowledge in these specialized areas. This facilitates the students to choose specialized areas of their interest. Adequate attention is given to provide students the basic concepts. The program is thus designed to expose students to various subjects having applications in VLSI design, smart system design, wired and wireless communication technologies, information processing, security systems, control engineering, power electronics, cloud based applications, information technology and electronics related industries through outcome based teaching and learning process which emphasizes practical exposure rather than memorization. A variety of activities such as mini projects, seminars, interaction with industries, cultural activities and social ac- tivities are in place to shape the all-round development of students. By looking at the changing corporate demands and to bring interdisciplinary teaching learning process, we introduced B. Tech Electronics and Computer Engineering that caters to meet the requirements of core Electronics industries with a blend of programming/IT skills leading to a meaningful hardware/software co-design ecosystem. M. Tech programs focus on advanced topics in the respective areas blended with internships, projects and certification programs that aid to build young engineers suitable for industry requirements, academics and research. The research program offered in the school caters to the needs of many people to pursue research work for their doctoral degree in various domains of Electronics, Communication, Computers and other interdisciplinary areas. This e-newsletter includes all the activities of the school. My best wishes to all students, faculty and staff!! Dr. R. C.
