Berk Berk'sChild Development is relied on in classrooms worldwide for its clear, engaging writing style, exceptional cross-cultural and multi-cultural focus, rich examples, and long- standing commitment to presenting the most up-to-date scholarship while also offering students research-based, practical applications that they can relate to their personal and professional lives. Berk takes an integrated approach to presenting development in the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social domains; emphasizes the complex interchanges between heredity and environment; and provides exceptional attention to culture. Laura Berk, renowned professor and researcher, presents the latest theories and findings in the field to students in a manageable and relevant way. –https://www.akademika.no Title: Genetics of populations Authors: Philip W. Hedrick It is the most current, comprehensive, and accessible introduction to the field for ad- vanced undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers in genetics, evolution, con- servation, and related fields. In the past several years, interest in the application of popu- lation genetics principles to new molecular data has increased greatly, and Dr. Hedrick's new edition exemplifies his commitment to keeping pace with this dynamic area of study. Reorganized to allow students to focus more sharply on key material, the Fourth Edi- tion integrates coverage of theoretical issues with a clear presentation of experimental population genetics and empirical data. Drawing examples from both recent and classic studies, and using a variety of organisms to illustrate the vast developments of population genetics, this text provides students and researchers with the most comprehensive re- source in the field. Title: Principles of Hormone/Behavior Relations Authors: Donald W Pfaff Robert Rubin Jill Schneider Geoff It provides an introduction to the underlying principles of endocrine regulation of behav- ior, a newly emerging area of research within neurobiology and endocrinology. It ad- dresses the properties of hormone/behavior relations, including the influence of family background, timing issues, neuroanatomical features, cellular mechanisms, and the impor- tance of environmental context and evolution. This new edition incorporates critical ad- vances in the field, also including increased coverage of hormonal influences on food in- take, and on the cardiovascular system. The addition of entirely new principles provides further coverage of epigenetics and ap- petite. Thoroughly revised and updated, this book is an ideal resource for neuroscientists and researchers engaging in this rapidly expanding field of study. Earlier, he has served PAU and Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar as Direc- tor of Research, PAU as Maize Breeder and Director (Seeds), and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) as Assistant Director General, and Director, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. Prior to taking over as VC of PAU, he was working as a scientist in Univer- sity of Hohenheim Stuttgart, Germany. Earlier, he has served International Wheat and Maize Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), Mexico. Academic and Research Achievements Born on June 27, 1947 at Village Doburji, Am- ritsar Dr Dhillon has outstanding academic credentials. He Father: Dr. Bakhshish Singh Dhillon obtained his Doctorate from Indian Agricultural Re- Mother: Mrs. Harbhajan Kaur Dhillon search Institute (IARI), New Delhi (Gold Medalist), M.Sc. from PAU, Ludhiana, and B.Sc. from Khalsa College, Amritsar. He has bagged many prestigious scholarships/ fellowships which include post-doctoral fellowships namely German Academic Exchange Ser- vice (DAAD) Fellowship (1976-78), Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (1988-89); University of Hohen- heim Fellowship in (1990) Germany, and Alexander von Humboldt Europe Fellowship (1989) to work at University of Birmingham, UK. Developed 16 varieties/ hybrids that have been used commercially at national and state levels and 59 inbreds and 6 heterotic pools that have been used commercially and served as genetic resource in India and abroad. The hybrids developed included ‘Paras’, the first single cross hybrid in India (1995), and thereby, gave a new direction to maize breeding in the country. His pioneering work on the cultivation during non-traditional winter/spring season has led to the emer- gence of spring maize as an important crop in NW India. He developed new plant-breeding methods having higher genetic gain, mating designs to estimate degree of dominance and genotype-environment interac- tions, techniques and analyses to evaluate germplasm for multiple tolerance and environments for conduct- ing selection. Developed germplasm evaluation network, started comprehensive evaluation in rice, wheat, chickpea and pigeon pea and created database on introduced and indigenous collections. He prepared and implemented strategies for targeted collection/ introduction of indigenous/exotic germplasm. He has a strong flair for scientific writings and has published ~ 400 research and policy papers besides authoring 13 scientific books. The Publications of Dr Dhillon on new methods of plant breeding and new techniques of quantitative genetic analysis have been
