  • Sports Facilities Development Towards Sustainable Community: a Case Study of Kuala Lumpur
SPORTS FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY: A CASE STUDY OF KUALA LUMPUR 1Maassoumeh Barghchi, 1Dasimah bt Omar, and 2Mohd Salleh Aman 1Department of Town and Regional Planning, Faculty of Architecture, Planning & Surveying Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, 40450 Selangor, Malaysia 2Sports Centre, University of Malaya (UM), 50603 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Abstract Sports and sports facilities development have improved rapidly over the past years in Malaysia. However, such improvements are inadequate compared to the overall development of sports at international level. In recent years sport is getting more and more influential and it will continue to grow in importance, even for developing countries. Increase in the amount of public money being spent on sports facilities, at the same time, increase in the number of sports facilities as well as increasingly importance of sustainability necessitate demand to investigate issues surrounding sports facilities development especially in Kuala Lumpur as the regional and national centre for sporting activities. The long-term benefits to cities and local communities need to achieve more initiative by decision-makers. However, sustainability is more important for sports facilities due to requirement of huge money for construction, ancillary needs and constant maintenance costs. This research aims to examine the effectiveness and intangible benefits of sports facilities in Kuala Lumpur through residents' perceptions. Four case studies each selected from one of the four managing zones of sports facilities developed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall provide information for this research. The research able to rank the case studies based on residents' perception towards their attitude about facilities and programmes, using of the facilities, and respondents’ willingness to pay.

  • Pfizer Malaysia Moves Into New Office at Bangsar South Dynamic New Office to Share, Create and Inspire Towards the Next Great Idea
For Immediate Release Pfizer Malaysia Moves into New Office at Bangsar South Dynamic new office to share, create and inspire towards the next great idea. Kuala Lumpur, 19 December 2012 – Pfizer Malaysia unveiled its new head office in Bangsar South, promising a creative and inspiring work environment to boost employees’ team spirit. The newly renovated office, on the 9th, 10 th and 11 th floors of Menara Averis, is designed in an open office concept to enable more flexibility and better communications, leading to a more innovative working environment, engaged teams that focus on bringing values to our stakeholders. A lion dance troupe ushered Pfizer Malaysia’s Country Manager, Angel Choi and her leadership team into the new green building to mark the move, a simple yet meaningful ceremony. “This move is far beyond a physical one; in fact it’s about positioning ourselves to lead - to generate innovative ideas, attract and retain the best talents and to embrace strategic partnerships, all of which help us in our mission to help those who matter most to us, our patients and healthcare professionals,” said Angel Choi, Pfizer Malaysia’s Country Manager. “We have come a long way from the small set-up in Jalan 222, Petaling Jaya back in 1964. Today we have eliminated the claustrophobia of cubicles and adopted an open concept to reflect the paradigm shift in the hierarchical system. This transformation is to set the foundation for Pfizer’s successful footprint and our presence here in Malaysia for many more years to come,” she added. Angel also pointed out that employee feedback was a vital part of the moving process, having implemented their ideas towards making the environment more conducive for work.

  • The Local Globetrotters Kuala Lumpur Trot Fact Sheet: 1
The Local Globetrotters Kuala Lumpur Trot Fact Sheet: Insider Tips on What to Do, Eat and Drink in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 1 Eat at a “Mamak” Restaurant There are lots of Mamak restaurants in KL, and most will offer a pretty standard menu. Here is a helpful list of popular mamaks in the KL area. From that list my favorite is Roti Tissue Devi’s Corner, located in Bangsar on the busy Jalan Telawi 3 (note: Jalan means street in Malay). There is a night market Maggi Goreng (or “pasar malam”) located next to the Bangsar mosque every Sunday night from 6pm onwards that is worth checking out for more street food! You will be able to see the mosque from Devi’s Corner. Must tries at the Mamak include: “Maggi Goreng” (essentially stir fried ramen noodles), with your choice of protein. Add a fried egg on top <3 Roti Canai: Arguably the most ordered snack/dish at the Nasi Kandar Roti Canai Teh Tarik mamak, this is a kind of flatbread similar to the Indian paratha. Served with fish curry (but you can request for chicken or beef too), and dhal (lentil curry). Roti Tissue (an almost paper thin, crispier and sweet Eat, Eat and Eat! version of the roti canai). It’s pretty big (see picture on Eating is the Malaysian national pastime. Thanks to the hot and humid weather, air- right, so share with friends!) conditioned malls are always packed with throngs of Malaysians who window shop or Nasi Kandar: White rice with curry poured over the rice watch a movie at the cinema, and of course eat at the many restaurants and cafes that (the curry blend and flavor is what differentiates this dish from one place to another), served with fried chicken, fish, make up a significant portion of any mall.
