Me and Bobby Mcgee Kris Kristofferson/Fred Foster Words & Music • Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum 37 LYRIC SHEET Me and Bobby McGee Kris Kristofferson/Fred Foster Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin’ for the trains Feelin’ nearly faded as my jeans Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained Took us all the way to New Orleans, I took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna And was blowin’ sad, while Bobby sang the blues With them windshield wipers slappin’ time and Bobby clappin’ hands We finally sang up every song that driver knew. Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose And nothin’ ain’t worth nothin’ but it’s free; Feelin’ good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues Feeling good was good enough for me Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun Bobby shared the secrets of my soul Standing right beside me, Lord, through everything I done And every night she kept me from the cold. Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away Lookin’ for the home I hope she’ll find And I’d trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday Holdin’ Bobby’s body next to mine. Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose, And nothin’ left is all she left for me Feelin’ good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues And buddy, that was good enough for me Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. RHYME.

Led by pacesetters such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Bobby Bare, artists in Nashville and Austin demanded the creative freedom to make their own country music, different from the pop-oriented sound that prevailed at the time. This exhibition also examines the cultures of Nashville and fiercely independent Austin, and the complicated, surprising relationships between the two. Artwork by Sam Yeates, Rising from the Ashes, Willie Takes Flight for Austin (2017) 3-6 Introduction 3 This interdisciplinary lesson guide allows classrooms to explore the exhibition Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ‘70s on view at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum® from May 25, 2018 – February 14, 2021. Students will examine the causes and effects of the Outlaw movement through analysis of art, music, video, and nonfiction texts. In doing so, students will gain an understanding of the culture of this movement; who and what influenced it; and how these changes diversified country music’s audience during this time.

  • Diversity. Fun. Elegance
Book Mike and The Mixers for your wedding or corporate event. Courtesy of the Mike McSwain Agency [email protected] Call Mike Mcswain 843-763-3805 Diversity. Fun. Elegance. The Mixers bring each, in just the right amount, to your event. Diversity. From Jazz standards to hard-hitting funk and rock tunes. Fun. The band keeps folks dancing and the band REALLY has fun being the driving force behind a great party. Elegance. The dress, the stage appearance, the lighting, the right volume...all contribute to a elegant event. The band was founded in 1994 by Charleston drummer Mike McSwain, who plays drums and handles business affairs for the group. The MiXeRs play only private events, most of which are wedding receptions and corporate events. But the band also plays anniversary parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthday parties, and reunions. Mike contributes the bandʼs busy schedule to the versatility of the group. “I think the biggest reason brides and corporate planners are happy with us is that we can create elegance in the beginning of an event, but weʼre able to shift gears when the time is right and create a party and dance atmosphere. Practically every event we play begins with jazz standards as background music, but winds up being a heck of a party, “ says McSwain. Another factor in the bandʼs success is the fact that the players are full-time musicians. Playing music is not something the band just does on the side. Mikeʼs clients know that this is his full-time profession, and that he has the time and willingness to give their party the proper attention.
