Resources for Students with Internet Access Problems at Home For students that do not have and require Internet access, below is a listing of current available options: • How to Use Your Smartphone as a Mobile Hotspot • Spectrum Grants Free Access to WiFi Hotspots, even for Non-Customers (includes map) • Xfinity WiFi offers free access to WiFi hotspots (includes map) • Verizon gives all mobile customers 15GB of extra data during coronavirus pandemic • List of free Wifi access available in locations close to FLCC Campuses (while many of these locations are closed, sometimes the wifi is available in their parking lots. We’d recommend calling ahead before traveling out to try. • Comcast has opened its Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots to the public: Map of Locations • Spectrum has opened its wireless hotspots to the public: Map of Locations • SLIC Networks has opened its Wi-Fi hotspots to the public: Map of Locations • NYS Thruway Authority offers free Wi-Fi in all 27 service areas. • Spectrum Free Internet for 60 days for Students that do not have it: To enroll call 1-844- 488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households • Empire Access Free Internet: for 60 days for Students that do not have it: To enroll call 844- 502-7089. There are no contracts required for this service, and installation is free. • Low cost Spectrum Internet Assist for low-income qualified households • Many cellular providers have eliminated data plan overage charges allowing you to use your mobile phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. See instructions for ATT and Verizon and Sprint. • Tracfone users, free increases in data and minutes available. • Charter COVID-19 Remote Education Credit - Beginning Monday, March 16, Charter is offering free access to internet and WiFi for 60-days for new Pre-K to 12, college student and teacher households who don't currently have internet or WiFi service. This discount will be applied as a credit for your first two months of internet ervices. Charter will waive any installation or pre-payment fees to help get you started. You can qualify for this offer if you: • Have a student of qualifying age at your service address with remote education needs • Have not subscribed to our internet services within the past 30 days Call (855) 243-8892 to sign up for this offer. Map of Locations o Listing of all open Wi-Fi hotspots available in NYC is here. • For Internet access in the Bronx or NYC: Altice COVID-19 Free Broadband to College Students Altice is offering its Altice Advantage 30 Mbps broadband solution for free for 60 days to any new customer household within its footprint. Eligible households interested in this solution can call: • 866-200-9522 to enroll in Optimum region, 888-633-0030 to enroll in Suddenlink region PLEASE NOTE: Previous restrictions to eligibility related to households with outstanding unpaid balances have been waived for New York households.
