OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 28, 2015 “Phenomenal”, PM Simpson Miller says of Athletes’ 6th & 7th Days Medal Haul Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has described as phenomenal, the performances of Jamaica’s athletes on days six and seven of the IAAF World Athletics Championships now underway in Bejing, China, where the country reached third in the medal rankings with a total 9 medals – 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. In a statement on Friday, August 28, the Prime Minister said that once again Jamaica’s athletes have cemented theirs and Jamaica’s place of excellence and glory in the annals of world sport history. She congratulated world sprint legend Usain Bolt on his second gold medal of the Championships with his first place finish in the 200 metres event on Day 6; and Shericka Jackson, who took bronze in the 400 metres race. The Prime Minister also commended Nickel Ashmeade for making it to the 200 metres final and said the Jamaican trio of Christene Day, Stephanie McPherson and Novlene Williams Mills who were sensational in their 4th, 5th and 6th place finishes respectively in the 400 metres. “Once again Usain has proven his standing as an all-time great who has established a class for himself in the pantheon of world sporting greats. No accolade is too great for this great Jamaican son. He is truly Jamaica’s living legend,” Prime Minister Simpson Miller said.
