March 1, 2016 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST Dear Athlete and Parent By way of introduction my name is Amanda Montag and I have been appointed as the manager of the Junior boys and girls track and field team for 2017 Maccabiah Games. The 20th Maccabiah games will take place in Israel in July 2017. The Games are held in Israel once every four years. The best Jewish athletes from around the world compete in Masters, Open, Junior and AWD competitions. The Games are the third biggest international sports competition(by number of sports and competitors)behind the Olympics and the World University Games. Planning is well advanced and online nomination for participants will open on 1 May 2016 and close on 30 June 2016. Selection into the Australian junior track and field team will be by attainment of event specific standards as well as consideration given to athlete current rate of progression and commitment to training. Junior athletes are those born 1999- 2002. If you are interested in receiving further information about the track and field competition or the Games in general, please send through your contact details so that you can be included on the data base. The 20Th Maccabiah Games, an International Jewish Multi-Sport Event, Featured 10,000 Athletes from Over 80 Countries
The 20th Maccabiah Games, an international Jewish multi-sport event, featured 10,000 athletes from over 80 countries. In the summer of 2017, over 1000 athletes from the USA traveled to Israel to compete in the third-largest sporting event in the world. Six juniors played chess in Haifa, along with three open competitors in Jerusalem. In the junior section, Joseph Zeltsan led wire-to-wire to win the first Maccabiah chess gold medal in United States history. Zeltsan won his first three games, including a slugfest with silver medalist Ezra Paul Chambers of Burundi. Zeltsan ceded only one draw, in a fourth-round match with bronze medalist Daniel Savchenko of Germany. “I was lost, then he blundered and I could've won, but I missed the win and found a draw instead, which is probably fair,” said Zeltsan, a top-ranked junior from the Bronx. The entire USA team performed well. Simona Nayberg of California was the top female finisher in the event. She and Eitan Genger of Florida scored 4.5 points to tie for 3rd-5th place, both narrowly missing out on a bronze medal due to tiebreaks. Kevin Ordet, also of Florida, braved a tough schedule in his first FIDE rated tournament, finishing with 3.5 points. Max Weinstein of New Jersey, participating in his second Maccabi Games, finished strong after a tough start to end with 3.5 points as well. Rose Dreizen of Manhattan got off to a great start in her first international tournament. She was tied for second after four rounds, and finished with 3 points due to challenging late-round matchups.

L’aspect associatif et les budgets plus faibles semblent impliquer un moindre impact sur l’aménagement urbain. Pourtant, par l’ampleur du nombre de participants, par la recherche d’ouverture et de visibilité, par la spécificité de l’accueil dans une grande capitale mondiale et par ses effets sur la spatialisation du genre et la norme urbaine, le projet Paris 2018 constitue bien un projet urbain important, voire un véritable projet de ville. Abstract Paris was chosen to host the next Gay Games, a sports tournament organized by gay and lesbian associations in order to promote inclusion in sports competition. The Gay Games are similar to an Olympic Games organization, but quite different in spirit. The emphasis on cooperation and the smaller budgets seem to entail a lesser impact on the urban territory. However, the huge number of participants, the political claims, the specificity of Paris – a world class capital city – and the probable consequences on gender norms and visibility in the city, all contribute to make the Paris 2018 bid an actual urban project, indeed a veritable city project.

Among the recipients of honorary degrees that day were Hubert Humphrey, who gave the commencement address, Thurgood Marshall, Frances Perkins, Lord Beveridge, and Harold C. Case, the president of Boston University. There were others, as well, including Abraham Feinberg, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Maurice B. Hexler, executive vice president of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York. On the previous day, Thurgood Marshall had given the baccalaureate address. Remarkably, many of us in the class of ‘61 still remember those speeches, if not in detail, then in broad outline. Both speakers linked the mission of Brandeis University to the commencement weekend theme of social welfare. Humphrey’s address, “The Four Enemies of Freedom,” was, in fact, an echo of FDR’s 1941 State of the Union speech. In that “message” (as it was then called) FDR put forward a four-point program of universal human rights: (1) freedom of speech, (2) freedom of worship, (3) freedom from want, and (4) freedom from fear. In an early 60s Cold War context, Humphrey updated those principles, enlisting them in the ideological struggle between contending political systems: American democracy in its most ideal form and communism as it was then perceived in the West.
