Not only is it beautiful, it’s also of great importance to the preservation of fauna and flora. This cycle tour leads you around the fringes of the forest, following first the shores of Lake Veluwe, then the River IJssel and finally the Rhine. You will also explore the part of the forest known as National Park Veluwezoom. Day to Day Day 1 Arrival in Ede Arrival in Ede Day 2 Ede - Nunspeet 68 km After breakfast, leave the town of Ede for a ride through woody surroundings and past Edese Heide (heath) to the village of Otterlo. From there enter Hoge Veluwe National Park, where you can also visit the excellent art Museum Kröller-Möller, which houses one of the largest van Gogh collection worldwide. An entrance ticket to the park (excluding museum entrance) is included in the tour price. Via Hoog Buurlo and Radio Kootwijk the journey continues to Garderen. Staverden Castle is the next stop on the way to Nunspeet, the final stop of today. Many artists have spent time here to paint and thats why Nunspeet has developed a reputation as a landscape painters village. Day 3 Nunspeet - Epe 57 km Jump on your bike and continue the tour to Hattem, a former Hansa town on the River IJssel. In the afternoon, cycle past woods, fields of heather and beautiful riverscapes to the pretty village of Epe. Day 4 Epe - Ellecom 71 km Feeling rested after the exertions of the previous day, you will set off for Ellecom. Along the way, you will pass a string of pretty villages situated on the south-east edge of Veluwezoom National Park. The village of Ellecom has lovely natural surroundings. Day 5 Ellecom - Ede 52 km In National Park Veluwezoom, pedal your way through pinewood and heathland and up the Posbank which will require some climbing. The route continues to Arnhem. Upon arrival either visit the Open Air Museum (showing how ordinary Dutch folk lived over the last few hundred years); or go to modern and fabulous Burgers Zoo; or learn all about the Battle of Arnhem (1944) at the Airborne Museum. Then follow the River Rhine to the Wageningsche Berg (Arboretum) and then North to your hotel, in Ede.
