The modelling considered approximately 50 combustion sources and numerous operating and flaring scenarios. The study formed a key part of the permit application for the construction and operation of the facility. Meteorological and Radioactive WKC undertook a detailed, regional-scale meteorological and air dispersion modelling study in order to determine potential Nuclide Fallout Modelling, impacts from hypothetical, emergency releases of radionuclides Arabian Gulf into the atmosphere on particular assets in the Gulf. Various long-range modelling systems were appraised and compared. The study was performed using the HYSPLIT model in conjunction with the ECMWF meteorological model which enabled the risk of radionuclides depositing at dangerous levels to be determined given any particular month, weather condition and release scenario. “Having a strong scientific understanding of atmospheric chemistry, meteorology and the processes that release emissions into the air is what we place at the centre of our Air Quality Practice strategy” Marc Blanché Air Quality Practice Leader [email protected] | WKC GROUP PAGE | 04 NOISE & VIBRATION SERVICES NOISE & Environmental and industrial noise surveys Noise modelling and mapping Wind farm noise assessments VIBRATION Acoustically induced vibration (AIV) assessments Flow induced vibration (FIV) assessments Acoustic design and mitigation assessment Noise and vibration bespoke training courses HEADLINE PROJECTS SARB Offshore Oilfield, Abu Dhabi WKC undertook comprehensive noise and vibration studies for one of the UAE’s largest offshore oilfield developments. The project involves the design and construction of numerous offshore platforms and riser structures as well as artificial islands upon which processing facilities will be placed. On behalf of the lead contractor, WKC have undertook noise modelling (SoundPLAN), baseline noise monitoring, noise verification surveys, as well as acoustically and flow induced vibration studies. Potash Mining Project, Eritrea Contributing to an EIA for the development of a major mining project in North Africa, in WKC undertook a comprehensive baseline noise survey. The South Boulder Mines project is a world class potash mining project in Eritrea, and one of the largest mining projects in North Africa. “With our professional associations, international experience, and utilising our specialist assessment tools, we offer efficient and robust solutions to meet our client’s needs.” Richard Palmer Noise & Vibration Practice Leader [email protected] PAGE | 05 WKC GROUP MARINE MODELLING MARINE MODELLING SERVICES 3D oceanographic modelling Near-field mixing zone determination Industrial wastewater modelling Dredge plume and drill cuttings modelling Cooling water discharge modelling Oil spill simulations Desalination plant discharge modelling Coastal process assessments and engineering HEADLINE PROJECTS Hail Field Development, WKC undertook comprehensive marine modelling in to assist with the design of various mitigation and management Abu Dhabi measures related to this high profile and sensitive offshore oilfield development project. WKC has been able to showcase a wide range of its marine modelling capabilities including industrial wastewater discharge modelling, dredge plume modelling, sediment transportation studies and oil spill simulations. Beach Erosion Study, WKC provided a major, international hotel chain with a solution for their beach erosion problems at one of their flagship hotels Abu Dhabi in Abu Dhabi, UAE. WKC utilised a combination of assessment techniques to propose an ‘optimum’ beach profile, shape, sand grain particle size distribution and fill volume. The advice delivered has assisted with significantly reducing the frequency of beach replenishment programs without the need for extensive and disruptive engineering solutions. “WKC offers a range of sophisticated 3D modelling services from our Dubai office. This is further strengthened by our in-house marine survey and impact assessment capability” Greg Ashcroft Marine Modelling Practice Leader [email protected] PAG|E W |K 0C6 GROUP WKC PGARGOEU P| 06 ECOLOGY SERVICES Terrestrial and marine ecology impact assessment ECOLOGY Flora, fauna and habitat surveys Water quality monitoring Biodiversity assessments Ecological management plans Relocation plans Invasive species management plans Remote sensing habitat mapping Snake handling and first aid training HEADLINE PROJECTS Abu Dhabi to Dubai Highway Project, UAE WKC prepared and submitted a detailed reptile relocation plan for the proposed Abu Dhabi to Dubai Highway Project, Abu Dhabi. The plan provided detailed pre-construction surveys and methodology to be incorporated by the contractors. The plan focussed on the Critically Endangered and Regionally Endemic Persian Wonder Gecko (Teratoscincus scincus) along with Spiny-tailed Lizard (Uromastyx aegyptia). Sharq Crossing, Qatar WKC undertook Marine Environmental Baseline Surveys, inclusive of benthic infauna, water and sediment sampling, drop down video surveys and SCUBA surveys, as part of the proposed Sharq Crossing Alignment Project, Doha Bay, Qatar. The Sharq Crossing Project, comprising three bridges interconnected by subsea tunnels, will link Doha's new Hamad International airport with the city's cultural district of Katara in the north and the central business area of West Bay. The project is considered to be one of the most ambitious engineering projects in the region. “WKC offer a wide range of terrestrial and marine ecology services in the Middle East. With our local experience we ensure that the correct survey and assessment methodologies are applied that are thorough, robust and meet international standards” Donald Afan Ecology Practice Leader [email protected] PAGE | 07 WKC GROUP ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT ESIA SERVICES Project screening and scoping studies Lender due diligence Environmental and Social baseline surveys Independent verification Quantitative and qualitative assessment of impacts EIA training and client capacity building Monitoring and mitigation plans Strategic Environmental Assessment HEADLINE PROJECTS Jazzan Economic City, Saudi In 2015 WKC commenced work on an EIA in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the permitting of the Jazzan Economic City, Arabia which included a major 400 BSPD refinery, 2.4 GW power station, industrial complex and marine terminal development Project. Key issues considered include significant air emissions, complex product fugitive emissions, and the discharge of waste and cooling water into a relatively sensitive region of the Red Sea. Upper Zakum 750k Project, Abu WKC have had an on-going role on one of the largest offshore oil and gas development projects in the world. Since 2010 WKC Dhabi have produced a series of EIA’s and associated environmental modelling studies for various elements of the project including early production facilities, process facilities, infield pipelines and utilities and accommodation units. As an associated study, WKC also produced the Gulf’s first, comprehensive guideline for the discharge of chemically dosed water (from, for example, pipeline hydrotesting) incorporating both UK North Sea and US EPA methodologies. “EIA provides an internationally accepted framework that allows environmental and social concerns to be addressed in a systematic and thorough way. Our consultants have a proven track record in the delivery of EIA across a range of sectors and geographies” Dr Ian James EIA Practice Leader [email protected] | WKC GROUP PAGE | 08 ASSURANCE SERVICES Auditor training ASSURANCE Compliance
