This article traces the essence of the tourist souvenir design, explaining the core of its value, the essence of local culture, and emphasizing the law of souvenir market value that maintains the uniqueness of local culture to attract purchases. By analysing the current situation of design homogeneity and lack of innovation in Chinese market, it proposes an innovative idea, “Back to Design Origins”. Then taking Nanjing souvenir design as an example, it introduces two innovative approaches, "Discovery and Application of New Cultural Elements" and " Cute Stylization of Traditional Symbols". Hangzhou is approximately 400 airline miles (625 kilometers) southwest of Shanghai and is the largest urban area in Zhejiang (Slide 2). The province itself is named for the Zhe River (now called the Qiantang River), which runs through the southern part of the Hangzhou urban area. 5. People’s Republic of China APRODICIO A. LAQUIAN INTRODUCTION The PeopleÊs Republic of China (PRC) is the most populated country in the world and is undergoing rapid economic development and urbanization. Relevant statistics on the countryÊs development are presented in Table 5.1. Most of the population still live in rural areas. However, by 2030, urban populations are expected to grow by more than 300 million, with 60% of the population living in urban areas. The ability to manage this expected level of urban development will be a major challenge. Significant social and environ- mental problems are already arising from 20 years of rapid growth. This chapter examines some issues facing urbanization in the PRC and introduces three case studies: Revitalizing the Inner City·Case Study of Nanjing, Shenzhen; Building a City from Scratch; and Reviving Rust-belt Industries in the Liaodong Peninsula. The case studies provide examples of the application of good practice in support of sustainable urban development. The final part of the chapter reflects on what has been learned. The PRCÊs commitment to sustainable development can be traced to its participation at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Two years later, the State Council approved the „White Paper on ChinaÊs Population, Environment and Development in the 21st Century.‰ In that document, sustainability as „development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs‰ (WCED 1987) was taken as official policy. The PRC also approved Agenda 21 that spelled out its developmental policies and programs. Methodology From September 2009 to August 2010, Animals Asia investigators visited 13 safari parks and zoos across China to document wild animal performances. The information and photographs obtained from this investigation are summarised below. Video footage taken during the investigations has been used to produce a short film entitled „The Performance‟ available via the Animals Asia website www.animalsasia.org 2. Executive Summary Wild animal performances are common at captive animal establishments across China. All thirteen establishments visited in 2009/10 put on performances of one kind or another with many drawing in large crowds. Asiatic Black Bears are the most popular performance animal, present at 90% of parks; 75% of parks exhibit performing monkeys; 75% of parks exhibit performing tigers; 50% of parks exhibit performing sea-lion; Five parks put on bird performances; four parks exhibit performing elephants and two parks have a dedicated dolphinarium for marine mammal performances. During the wild animal performances animals are forced through fear, intimidation and in some cases physical force to perform unnatural tricks. 75% of parks force bears to ride bicycles; 50% of parks force bears to perform acrobatics on acrobatic rings; three parks force bears to ride a motorbike over a high wire 30ft above the ground; two parks force bears to „box‟ with each other; one park exhibits a human wrestling with a bear; 75% of parks force monkeys to ride bicycles; 50% force monkeys to perform handstands on the horns of goats, often while the goat is balancing on a tightrope some 10ft above the ground; the most common tiger acts force tigers to walk on their back legs, jump through hoops of fire and walk on top of large balls; Elephants were seen at four parks performing uncomfortable and humiliating tricks such as standing on their heads, and spinning on one leg. -

The development of low-cost sensors and novel calibration algorithms provides new hints to complement 10 conventional ground-based observation sites to evaluate the spatial and temporal distribution of pollutants on hyperlocal scales (tens of meters). Here we use sensors deployed on a taxi fleet to explore the air quality in the road network of Nanjing over the course of a year (Oct. 2019–Sep. 2020). Based on GIS technology, we develop a grid analysis method to obtain 50 m resolution maps of major air pollutants (CO, NO2, and O3). Through hotspots identification analysis, we find three main sources of air pollutants including traffic, industrial emissions, and cooking fumes. We find that CO and NO2 concentrations show a pattern: 15 highways > arterial roads > secondary roads > branch roads > residential streets, reflecting traffic volume. While the O3 concentrations in these five road types are in opposite order due to the titration effect of NOx. Combined the mobile measurements and the stationary stations data, we diagnose that the contribution of traffic-related emissions to CO and NO2 are 42.6 % and 26.3 %, respectively. -

Many local and national news outlets reported this event. Based on an analysis of the pollution features and meteorological factors, including boundary layer characteristics, we concluded that this haze event was similar in most respects to other local haze episodes. We discuss the reasons and the possibilities about this rare color haze at the end of the paper. One way to attain a combination of blue and red light is to have the green wavelengths selectively absorbed, and this seems unlikely for typical atmospheric constituents. -

The paper explores the story of ethnic group, cultural identification and the significance of Jade Huang in the discourse construction of etiquette civilization behind the mythic narrative based on multi-evidence method and the local meaning of literature in ancient Chinese context. Keywords: Jade Huang, Huang of Xiahoushi, unified diversity, Chinese identity, etiquette civilization, multi-evidence method Introduction Modern archeological relics including potteries, jades and bronzes bring back the lost history; the process of how Chinese unified diversity took shape in general and the great tradition of jade culture in eight thousand in particular. The handed-down documents echo each other at a distance provide solid evidences for the origin of civilization of rite and music and the core values based on jade belief. Jade Huang is an important one of it. It is illuminated by numerous records about Jade Huang in ancient literature, as well as a large number of archaeology findings past 7,000 years. The paper seeks to focus on the following questions: what is the function of Jade Huang in historic and prehistoric period? Moreover, what is the function of “Huang of Xiahoushi”, which belonged to emperor and symbolized special power in historic documents and myths and legends in ancient china? We surveyed captive giant pandas in China for the presence of E. bieneusi by using PCR and sequence analysis of the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) revealing a 34.5% positive rate, with seven known genotypes (SC02, EpbC, CHB1, SC01, D, F, and Peru 6) and fve novel genotypes (SC04, SC05, SC06, SC07, and SC08) identifed. We similarly analyzed water samples, and E. bieneusi was detected in two samples, with genotype SC02 identifed. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that CHB1 did not cluster with any recognized group, while the remaining genotypes belonged to group 1. The predominance of zoonotic group 1 genotypes indicates a public health threat that giant pandas could spread E. bieneusi to humans. The identifcation of E. bieneusi in water samples suggests giant pandas could contribute to water contamination. Efective control measures are therefore needed to minimize the contamination of the water and prevent a human microsporidiosis outbreak. Microsporidiosis is an emerging infectious disease caused by microsporidial parasites, including the most common and environmentally ubiquitous species, Enterocytozoon bieneusi, which is responsible for ~90% of all cases of human microsporidiosis1.
