Appendix V Letter from the Market Consultant in Relation to Its Hong Kong Hotel Industry Report
APPENDIX V LETTER FROM THE MARKET CONSULTANT IN RELATION TO ITS HONG KONG HOTEL INDUSTRY REPORT RevPAR of RKH and High Tariff A Hotels, 1997 to 2005 High Tariff A Regal Kowloon Hotel Kowloon Shangri-La HK$ 1,600 1,400 1,200 1,000 800 600 400 200 0 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 Source: HKTB, Regal Hotels International Ltd., Shangri-La Asia Limited, Savills Research & Consultancy The movement of the RevPAR of RKH has generally tracked the High Tariff A hotel average. RevPAR was affected by the Asian Financial Crises (1997-8) and SARS (2003) but reacted to favorable market conditions such as the I.T. boom (2000), the post SARS recovery and the implementation of IVS (2003). Despite the volatility, the average annual growth rate of the RevPAR of RKH between 1997 and 2005 was 1% per annum, lower than the High Tariff A hotel average of 4% per annum, largely reflecting the negative impact of its aging facilities. It is noteworthy that in 2005, since occupancy rates were at high levels, operators have been more aggressive in raising room rates and RKH was no exception. RevPAR in 2005 was therefore driven largely by room rate rises. The average room rate of RKH over 2006 recorded a strong increase of 16% compared with the same period in 2005. The average occupancy rate also increased to 86%, compared with 84% recorded over the same period last year, RevPAR over this period increased by approximately 18%. Outlook RKH is strategically located in a traditional tourist node and a core business district. -

The California Tech [email protected] VOLUME CXIV NUMBER 26 PASADENA , CALIFORNIA MAY 23, 2011 Semana Latina brings Hispanic flair to Tech BRANDON COMELLA ! Staff Writer This May, Caltech was once again with alive with the sounds and sights of Latin America. The Caltech Latino Association of Students in Engineering and Sciences (CLASES) put together the weeklong celebration of Hispanic Culture. Each day featured a lunchtime event as well as special Coffee House offering at night. Monday had a local artist showing his work in front of Chandler. Martin Shepherd, a Caltech Staff member, entertained those eating lunch with Andean tunes played on his Quena, or South American flute. At night many students going into the Coffee House decided to have the Mexican special, which included churros, enchiladas, and horchata. For lunch on Tuesday, Tom Mannion prepared Asado, or Argentinean barbecue. Students were treated to various cuts of meat, with the chicken, pork, and beef made to taste like they had just come from a parilla in Buenos Aires. Professional Tango dancers showcased their skills, gliding across the dance floor. Afterwards, Brazilian Samba dancers strutted along in a congo line with ecstatic Caltech students during Semana Latina. several pairs of Caltech students - Provided by Brandon Comella went up and started dancing themselves.Wednesday brought flamenco dancers performed to foods from the country. The to much fanfare. After their first Institute Lawn to celebrate the Mannion’s mixed paella, served on the music of a guitarist. Students night was dedicated to Costa set, they got the crowd involved, end of Semana Latina. -

Or Bus 15 from Central MTR) to the Peak
The Opening of Hong Kong for the Preaching of the Gospel Take the Peak Tram (or Bus 15 from Central MTR) to the Peak. It lets you out into the Peak Tower shopping center. Go up one level, and walk outside to the area between the Peak Tower and the Peak Galleria shopping centers where there is an old green trolley car on display. Turn right, cross the street to the old stone restaurant called “The Peak Lookout” and take the road that starts just on the right side of the restaurant. Walk about 200 yards until you see a small waterfall on the right side of the path (about a 10 minute walk). Stop there briefly and read the following history of the dedication of Hong Kong for the preaching of the gospel. In 1949, President George Albert Smith commissioned Apostle Matthew Cowley to bless the land of Hong Kong to the preaching of the gospel, even though all of China was dedicated in 1921 by David O. McKay, an apostle at the time. A new mission had been formed with Hilton Robertson as the mission president and Henry Aki as a counselor. Elder Cowley, President Robertson, Brother Aki, and their wives, along with Brother Aki’s mother, went to the peak for this event. In a moment, you can walk to the exact spot where the dedication occurred and read some journal entries about the event, but this is how the exact spot was discovered. W. Brent Hardy served as a missionary in Hong Kong during the 50s.
