    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [email protected] LASSITER HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADE GEORGIA BOYS SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR CHICAGO (June 8, 2020) — In its 35th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company today announced Vedad Kovac of Lassiter High School as its 2019-20 Gatorade Georgia Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Kovac is the fourth Gatorade Georgia Boys Soccer Player of the Year to be chosen from Lassiter High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Kovac as Georgia’s best high school boys soccer player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in June, Kovac joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Alexi Lalas (1987-88, Cranbrook High School, Mich.), Steve Cherundolo (1996-97, Mt. Carmel High School, Calif.), Abby Wambach (1997-98, Our Lady of Mercy School of Young Women, N.Y.), Heather O’Reilly (2001-02, 2002-03, East Brunswick High School, N.J.), Matt Besler (2004-05, Blue Valley West High School, Kans.), Jack Harrison (2013-14, Berkshire High School, Mass.) and Mallory Pugh (2014-15, Mountain Vista High School, Colo.). The 5-foot-8, 145-pound senior forward led the Trojans to a 7-1 record this spring before the season was cancelled. Kovac totaled 17 goals and 14 assists with three hat tricks in eight games. The 2019 4-AAAAAAA Region Player of the Year, Kovac is a member of the Under-19 Bosnian National Team.

    Class of 2005 Scholar Bios

    Class of 2006 Class of 2005 Class of 2004 Class of 2003 Navid Abghari I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia to two Persian parents. As a first-generation Persian- American, I was forced to juggle conflicting cultures, to balance a conservative Persian upbringing while living in a freethinking American society. Dealing with culture lines have helped me develop as a person, and have laid the foundation for who I am today. As I have grown older, I have jumped at the opportunities to branch out and meet new people. In high school, I volunteered at a local Alzheimer’s assisted living center where I become close with many people with whom I would not ordinarily come in contact. Also, became involved with a nature/recycling center. To this day, I make sure to go back and get some time in with all the people I met at these places. College has afforded even more opportunity for me to grow and develop as a person. I have, with the help of a fellow student, begun to organize and establish a new student organization: the Persian Student Association. Also, I have gotten involved with the Banking and Finance Society, Watchdawgs, and the Economics Society. Looking back, I am more and more grateful for my experiences with two extremely different cultures. I value aspects of both cultures that many people take for granted, because I have perspective from both sides. Although my experience with biculturalism may have been trying, I would never wish for them to be different, as they have collectively helped me become the person I am today.

    The 2011-2012 season is just around the corner. The 9U Kennesaw Generals Travel Team will hold an Open Tryout for the 2011-2012 season on Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 2:30-4:30pm on Field 3 & 4 at Adams Park in downtown Kennesaw. Several changes are in the mix for the 9U season. Coaches Chuck Whaley and Brody Hendrix are excited to move into ‘real’ baseball and create a baseball family that grows together in a highly competitive arena. The Generals will use the Fall 2011 season to focus on conditioning, pitching and overall player and team development. This will be done both through individual and professional training. We plan to play in a couple of local tournaments during the Fall if our players are available. The Generals will gear up February 1, 2012 for the Spring/Summer season, practicing 3-5 times per week. Tournament play will begin by the end of February and continue through mid to late July (depending on which World Series we choose to play in). Page 1 of 18 It’s HARD to stop a TRAIN. The Generals are a kid pitch travel baseball team based out of Adams Park here in Kennesaw, but comprised of talented players from around the surrounding areas. We, as coaches, know that there are many options out there available to the youth of today and we are honored to have the privilege to not only teach players about a game we love, but about the life lessons that can be learned through baseball as well.

    19 LC 119 0357 House Resolution 547 By: Representatives Dollar of the 45th, Carson of the 46th, and Cooper of the 43rd A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing and commending the Georgia High School Fencing League and its member 2 teams; and for other purposes. 3 WHEREAS, the Georgia High School Fencing League (GHSFL) offers organization, 4 support, and guidance to high schools wishing to develop a fencing program, providing 5 students the opportunity to participate in a classical sport that demands physical fitness and 6 teaches patience and decisiveness; and 7 WHEREAS, USA Fencing, the sport's national governing body, recognizes the GHSFL as 8 the fastest growing high school fencing league in the United States and as the third largest 9 such league in the United States; and 10 WHEREAS, from a field of more than 450 fencers from the 21 high schools who participated 11 in the 2018-2019 GHSFL season tournaments, 84 men and 84 women are among those who 12 qualified to participate in the 2019 Individual Championships hosted by Chattahoochee High 13 School on January 26, 2019; and 14 WHEREAS, the following young men and young women earned medals in the GHSFL 15 Individual Championships: In the men's event the top eight, in order, were: Arthur Yu 16 (Alpharetta High School), Jacob Danzig (Johns Creek High School), Gabriel Chen (Walton 17 High School), Tyler Cho (Chattahoochee High School), Arnav Singh (South Forsyth High 18 School), Anthony Freeman (BEST Academy), Cole Tinsley (Alpharetta High School), 19 Donny Gu (Chattahoochee High School). Learn as if you were to live forever.” – Mahatma Gandhi This publication captures a snapshot of the Class of 2018, with photos, facts, and just a few of the scholarships and awards garnered by members of this outstanding group of students. We know that many, many more of our students earned prestigious honors and scholarships that are not part of this publication. And we estimate that listing just the names of all of our graduates would take 84 pages! Congratulations to all of the members of the Class of 2018. We are so very proud of you! A SALUTE TO OUR SENIORS If anyone is counting, our graduating seniors are wrapping up their K–12 academic careers with more than 15,200 hours of teach- ing and learning. (That’s 6.5 hours for 180 days for 13 years for those doing the math at home.) After all that hard work, we’re not surprised that this largest-ever class of more than 12,600 on-track graduates is ready to cross the stage to accept their diploma and turn their tassels. Graduation ceremonies for the district’s 22 diploma-granting high schools started with Phoenix HS on May 21 and wrap up on May 26 with Mountain View HS.
