E são eles que fazem de Cascais um concelho de campeões, na vida como no desporto. 2016 foi, a esse respeito, um ano notável. A seleção portuguesa de futebol, treinada pelo cascalense Fernando Santos, foi campeã europeia em França. A nossa equipa olímpica, onde pontuam tantos cascalenses, deu o melhor nos Jogos do Rio. Mas nem só dos grandes eventos e das conquistas mediáticas se fez o nosso ano desportivo. Há, aliás, muito mais para além delas. Pelo palco da Gala passam centenas de atletas, de dezenas de clubes e escolas. Campeões distritais, nacionais e europeus. De modalidades individuais ou coletivas, disputadas no ar ou no mar, em relvados ou pelados, em pistas ou pavilhões. É por isso que digo que, se fosse um clube, o Clube Cascais era o mais eclético e, provavelmente, o mais titulado clube português. Como tenho dito, há muito trabalho por de trás do sucesso.
