Heron’s Nest Herb Farm Hill Country Lavender Miller Creek Lavender Texas Lavender Hills Wimberley Lavender Farm *one per family, and while supplies last Welcome to Blanco, the Lavender Capital of Texas®! As Executive Director of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce, I hear so many comments about the special and unique character of Blanco. I believe it is a combination of the friendliness of the people, the simple charm of the town square, the repose of the Blanco River, the beauty of the rugged Hill Country and area ranches, and the lure of lavender. All this, combined with a community rich in history and accepting of diversity makes Blanco a won- derful place to live and work. It is what captivates the hearts and curiosity of all who pass through our community. In any community there is a local “flavor” that makes it special, memo- rable, and leaves one wanting more. Blanco is no exception. Named the Lav- ender Capital of Texas® on August 1, 2006, the Blanco community welcomed a new element -- lavender -- to add to its beauty, history and character. Romantic and rugged, relaxing and intriguing, healing and flavorful – these characteristics of lavender also define Blanco. Lavender’s simple beauty reminds us of who we are today and what originally attracted settlers to this area. As one approaches the crest of the Blanco Valley and takes in the re- gion’s beauty, the feeling of being home fills the heart and soul, much like the beauty and scent of lavender that intrigues the senses and relaxes the body. This year we present Blanco Lavender Days, our new month-long celebra- tion of lavender. Each weekend in June, two of our six growers host special events at their farms. The exception is the 2nd weekend in June when we “paint the town purple” during our 5th Annual Blanco Lavender Festival. Along with the residents, Chamber members, and business owners of Blanco, I welcome you to share in the month-long lavender experience, in- cluding Blanco Lavender Days and Blanco Lavender Festival. Explore, enjoy, relax, and rejuvenate in the romantic lure of lavender provided by local grow- ers and in the friendly spirit and small-town goodness of Blanco! Welcome, Photos by A. Welcome! Greetings music lovers and WELCOME to the 29th Annual High Sierra Music Festival. What makes High Sierra so special is that everyone truly brings their “A GAME” to High Sierra, the best versions of themselves – starting with the musicians, on down to the staff and production crews, the vendors and volunteers, to the Quincy community and the patrons! It’s such an amazing aggregate of people and passion, and we’re grateful to all for making it happen! We hope you thoroughly enjoy the weekend while practicing self-care. Please stay hydrated! Thanks to our friends at Klean Kanteen, we have filtered drinking water stations conveniently located throughout the fairgrounds and it’s FREE! (check the festival map in the center of this booklet for locations of the Hydration Stations). If you’re an experienced High Sierra festivarian we consider you an ambassador of the festival and one who upholds the high standard that you have helped set with regard to being “kind neighbors and good people.” We thank you for honoring the unwritten FESTIQUETTE code! (See Festival Guidelines towards the back of this booklet for some specific dos and don’ts.) There’s so much to take in at High Sierra besides the four daytime stages and after midnight venues, so go at a pace that suits you, and if you just feel like relaxing at your campsite you can tune in to Grizzly Radio to listen to what’s happening on stage (see this booklet for station frequencies). Nourish yourself with tasty treats from a wide array of food vendors, shop for yourself or a loved at one of our creative crafts vendor booths, take a young one over to the Family Village, enjoy a swim at Pioneer pool out by Shady Grove, recharge with a yoga or Pilates class, or sample some delicious wine and beer at the High Sierra Swirl – our daily late afternoon beer and wine tasting adjacent to the food court in the Tulsa E.

The trans-Atlantic band, based in New York City and Paris, makes its Cuneiform debut with Synesthesia, a roller-coaster ride of an album marked by fierce grooves, subtle electronic textures, intricate metrical shifts, and a commitment to empathic group interplay. Featuring Warren Walker on saxophone and electronics, bassist Gaël Petrina, and drummer Caleb Dolister, The Kandinsky Effect explores a distinctive swath of sonic territory, inspired by similarly electronica-laced ensembles like Kneebody and Jaga Jazzist. With a long history as a cutting edge format, the saxophone, bass and drums trio is usually employed by horn players looking to explore harmonically unfettered improvisation. The Kandinsky Effect finds a different kind of freedom in the lack of a chordal instrument. Steeped in improvisation and various post-bop vocabularies, the trio has honed a sound described by the Los Angeles Times as “bracing, electronically tweaked jazz.” It’s an approach that erases distinction between front line and rhythm section, as all three musicians constantly direct the music’s flow. “I didn’t start with any kind of a theory or concept,” says Walker, 32, who wrote eight of the album’s 11 tracks.
