16 September 2019 Dear Parents, Grandparents and Carers As we draw to the end of this busy term, it is a good time to reflect on the many wonderful opportunities our students, teachers and parents have enjoyed. Improve learning and achievement for all students Year 1 and 2 students are currently engaged in a science inquiry with the key idea, simple machines serve a purpose for all people. In week 8, students explored through hands on activities the concepts of friction, forces and how pullies operate. This science incursion was led by Paula Taylor from the Centre of Innovation and Learning. Last week six students from year 3 to year 5 participated in Tuggeranong Schools Senior Enrichment program. The year 3 day focused on digital technologies, year 4 on STEM including robotics and year 5 had an active day focusing on physical education. As part of our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) our teachers continue to work collaboratively in their teams to improve student outcomes. This term PLCs have been analysing reading data and reading programs to ensure individual needs of all students are accommodated with the aim of a year’s growth for every student. We invite you to join as for the first Richardson’s Got Talent on Friday 27 September at 9am in the school hall. Students have been busy preparing at a lunch time with the assistance of Mrs May and they are very eager to share with the community their skills and talents. See you all there! Develop an expert teaching team I will be taking long service leave for the first eight weeks of Term 4. I will spend this time with my family on an overseas vacation. My absence provides an opportunity for a staff member to develop their leadership expertise in covering some of my role. An expression of interest process is currently underway to fill these duties in Term 4. Once this process is finalised, we will share this information with the community. Provide a safe, inclusive and respectful school culture A reminder that our kindergarten to year six Learning Journey is on this Thursday 19 September before and after school. Look out for the hand-written invitation from your child to attend. We look forward to seeing you next week as you share the many and varied achievements of your child/ren over this year. Over the coming weeks students will be introduced to the PBL Expectations for the Assembly and Bag Areas. These expectations will be reinforced using our DABs system. Keep a look out for the signs in these areas and read through them with your child/ren. Men’s Link will be visiting our 5/6 boys this week. They will discuss with the boys the hassles of life and how boys find it hard to talk about problems and ask for help. The enduring message of the visit being, Don’t stay silent, Silence is Deadly. We have been blown away with the community engagement and response with this year’s School Satisfaction Survey. The final count of completed surveys from families was 90. This is almost double last year’s contribution. We are humbled, thankful and excited to view the results early next term and put the thoughts and ideas into action. Last week staff participated in professional learning around, Responding to Parents Reports of Bullying. This was a useful and practical session which will assist to strengthen our relationships with parents when discussing and following through with their concerns. We have had some wonderful new activities in RIPP this term. Thanks to the support of Bunnings we now have a Frog Pond in the preschool and students enjoyed being part of the construction process and we are looking forward to seeing frogs in the future. Our bikes are now in good working order, thanks to the bike maintenance group and hopefully students have taken some knowledge home and have been ensuring their own bikes are safe and road worthy. We also look forward to the artwork the bottle top mosaic group have been creating with links to our local Indigenous community and finding a prominent position for its display. Wishing you all a relaxing and safe October break.
