I personally can’t even master a drawing for a game of Pictionary. My stick figures look like they got stuck in a wood chipper. But Parker Medley, an 8th-grade College View Middle School student, truly has an artistic eye and the golden touch to go with it. Check out some of his pieces. You’re going to be amazed at what this 13-year-old boy can do with colored pencils! Headlines were made recently when the first images of Jared Leto as “The Joker” were released to the media. Parker saw it an quickly replicated it almost exactly. This is astonishing (and a touch frightening) . Photo by Cathie Medley This isn’t the first time that Parker has mastered the iconic image of Batman’s most ruthless rival. Check out this rendering he did of Heath Ledger as “The Joker!” Parker seems to have a knack for recreating some of pop culture’s most enduring images and his works tend to have a slightly dark edge. Like this . By the way, Parker’s mother Cathie wants to make sure everyone knows that she has not allowed him to watch Silence of the Lambs yet. LOL! He just created this rendering from a still shot of Hannibal the Cannibal. And I must say. He nailed it. Serve up the fava beans! And speaking of iconic images from film and pop culture, check out these two! And look at the detail in this piece. Remember the movie UP? The accuracy of this creation is just mind-blowing. I think it’s safe to assume that Parker is going “up” as well. This kid has an amazing eye for detail and an equally amazing gift in recreating it. Cathie says that she noticed Parker’s “flair” from the moment he picked up a pencil. At the age of 4 or 5, he was drawing SpongeBob SquarePants, in vivid detail, and he was doing it from MEMORY!! That’s just unbelievable. And Parker is committed to sharing his gifts with others. For instance, at the upcoming Rock the House fundraising event for CASA, Parker will be donating a piece of artwork for auction and all proceeds will benefit the agency. The theme of Rock the House is rock-n-roll and guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite rock or country stars. While Parker hasn’t yet made up his mind who he’s going to draw for the event, you can be assured it’s going to be a spot-on recreation and a piece of artwork the crowd will be clamoring for. Parker’s an impressive kid with an impressive memory and an remarkable talent for making that memory a vivid reality again.
