The Barrow Crossing at Alfreton station will be out of action for the next 12 weeks due to work being undertaken by . Therefore the only access between Northbound and Southbound platforms at Alfreton is via the footbridge. Public access to platforms at Alfreton WITHOUT using the footbridge is via the Northbound platform (Platform 1). For customers who cannot use the footbridge at Alfreton, they should be advised to travel via Chesterfield or Nottingham instead: If a customer wishes to travel South from Alfreton, they will need to travel up to Chesterfield and back down. If a customer wishes to travel to Alfreton arriving from the North they will need to travel onto Nottingham and back up. Normally customers would need additional return tickets from Alfreton to Nottingham or Chesterfield to do this. Would on-train and ticket office staff please note that Central Trains and have agreed to allow mobility impaired customers to travel over-distance without extra charge during the closure of the Barrow Crossing at Alfreton. A Merchandiser is available to assist Booking Offices, Travel Centres and rail appointed Travel Agents. The Merchandiser contains all the information that retailers need to know about the Caledonian Sleeper including on-train and station facilities, ticket information, ticket issuing instructions and fares. The Merchandiser has been updated and retailers should ensure that they have a copy dated October 2005 which supersedes all previous editions. The merchandiser can be downloaded via the internet at :- www..com/scotrail/content/private/merch.doc Alternatively a postal copy can be requested by telephoning First ScotRail marketing on (internal) 045 4508 or (external) 0141 335 4508. Retailers should pay particular attention to the following changes that have been made to previous editions of the Merchandiser:- A number of sections throughout the Merchandiser have been updated to reflect the introduction of NRS. Section 2.8, Lounge Car Facilities - Please note that with effect from Sunday 9 October 2005 smoking within the Lounge Car areas of all Caledonian Sleepers will not be permitted.
