BOURDAIS LOOKS TO PICK UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF: Sebastien Bourdais claimed the season-opening race at St. Petersburg and hopes to continue his momentum at Long Beach. Bourdais, who has won three times at Long Beach as part of his four consecutive Champ Car titles (2004-07), drives now for Dale Coyne Racing, which is seeking its first win at Long Beach. Can Bourdais get his team to the winner’s circle again this weekend? Chris Jones/IMS Photo WHAT TO WATCH FOR THIS WEEKEND: • PAGENAUD LOOKS TO REPEAT AT THE BEACH: Simon Pagenaud used a win at Long Beach to stake his claim as a favorite for the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series championship. He returns to the race, aiming for another win at the track. Can the Frenchman claim another win on the streets of Long Beach and join the prestigious list of back-to-back winners that includes Mario Andretti, Bourdais, Paul Tracy, Al Unser Jr. and Alex Zanardi? • CALIFORNIA KIDS: A native of Camarillo, Calif., Charlie Kimball grew up with the Long Beach street circuit nearly in his backyard. The Rio Mesa High grad returns to his “home track” looking for his first win in his home state. A pair of Northern California natives, Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi and JR Hildebrand are also slated to compete. Rossi hails from Nevada City, but spent the winter in the Los Angeles area while Hildebrand is from Sausalito, just across the bay from San Francisco. Will a California native pull off an impressive finish in front of friends and family? • PUSH TO PASS: Drivers may engage their “push-to-pass” for total of 200 seconds during the race, with a maximum duration of 20 seconds for any one activation. The push-to-pass is not available on the initial race start or any restart unless it occurs in the final two laps or three minutes of a timed race. The feature increases the power of the engine by approximately 60 horsepower for 2017.
