ROMANIA Belgrade CROATS IN BACKA, SRIJEM AND BANAT (VOJVODINA) POSITION OF CROATS IN VOJVODINA REGARDING THEIR CULTURAL, POLITICAL, AND OTHER FUNDAMENTAL AND HUMAN RIGHTS Introduction As a result of the Croats in Vojvodina being deprived of their rights and the assimilatory policies which have calculatedly been implemented for over 70 years, the Croatian population has constantly been in decline. The war against Croatia and the destruction the war has caused directly reflect upon the status of Croats in Vojvodina. All too often they are insulted and taunted. They are attacked through public media, the Croatian media are blocked, they are mistreated by Serbian government authorities and rendered powerless in all areas of public life. Croatian cultural and historic monuments are being destroyed (Baa, Subotica, among others), and Croatian homes in Novi Slankamen have been blasted by machine gun fire, besides a whole line of similar occurrences. With that kind of politics, Serbia, especially after the cessation of the constitutional autonomy of Vojvodina, would like to destroy the will of the Croats to live in the areas of Barka, Banat, and Srijem, where Croats had already been living for thirteen hundred years. -

Functional Area of Belgrade and Its Impact on Vital Component in the Example of Settlements in the Municipality of Stara Pazova
GEOGRAPHICAL INSTITUTE “JOVAN CVIJIC” SASA COLLECTION OF PAPERS NO 56 YEAR 2007 911.3:314.8(497.11) Dragana Matijevic∗ FUNCTIONAL AREA OF BELGRADE AND ITS IMPACT ON VITAL COMPONENT IN THE EXAMPLE OF SETTLEMENTS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF STARA PAZOVA Abstract: One has not still investigated the functional area of Belgrade sufficiently in a domain of domestic urban geography. For that reason, this paper analyzes the territory of the municipality of Stara Pazova as a part of Belgrade functional area, which does not belong to it administratively but connects the main city by firm spatial-functional interactions. The mentioned territory will be analyzed from the aspect of demographic development, i.e. in the example of population growth trend. The negative trend has characterized the dynamics of the vital element development for almost several years. However, even with the declining trend, the natural development of the population on the territory of the municipality of Stara Pazova differentiated in comparison with the remaining parts of Srem and Voivodina, owing to the late phenomenon of negative natural development of the population. Such legality of biological component development firmly connects the geographic legalities of the location and gravitation. The mentioned researches should point out if the territories belonging to the functional area of some town settlements represent the places of the demographic polarization, concentration and territories also differing from the areas that do not belong to the functional area of a town, according to the indicators of the vital trends. The results of the researches should confirm the thesis that urban regions represent relevant factors of the demographic polarity. -

TECHNICAL REPORT FOR SERBIA LSMS 2007 Republican Statistical Office of Serbia, Department for International Development and World Bank 1.1 FIELDWORK Approximately 90% of the LSMS questionnaire was based on the 2002 and 2003 LSMS questionnaire, carrying forward core measures in order to measure trends over time. The survey incorporated two methods of interviewing - one involving the interviewer (face to face) and the other was a self-completion diary. All modules, with the exception of the consumption diary, were filled by the interviewer with the respondent. The diary was left in the household and filled in by the household member in charge of daily purchases. Fieldwork consisted of three phases. The first phase involved identification of the household and filling of certain modules, after which the household was instructed how to keep the diary of consumption. In the second phase each household kept the diary, while the interviewers were obliged to visit the household and help them in fill the diary where needed. In the third phase the interviewer visited the household again, examined the diary to see whether it had been correctly filled, and conducted the interview for the remaining modules. Distribution of modules according to phases is presented in the following table. Table 1: Organization of modules by phases of data collection 1. Demography and migration 2. Durable goods 1.phase: 3. Social programs 4. Health Household consumption 2.phase 5.1 Daily consumption 5.2 Monthly consumption 6. Education 7. Employment 3.phase 8. Agriculture 8. Overcoming Or Indicating the Digital Divide? Mirjana DEVETAKOVIC RADOJEVIC
Civic Networks of the Srem District – Overcoming or Indicating the Digital Divide? Mirjana DEVETAKOVIC RADOJEVIC Mirjana Devetakovic Radojevic, MSc, Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 73/2, 11000 Beograd, Serbia, [email protected] 1 INTRODUCTION The phenomenon of digital divide has been examined recent years from many different viewpoints. There is still a variety of definitions and a range of propositions for its examination and measuring. According to the OECD reports: “digital divide refers to the gap between individuals, households, business and geographic areas at different socio-economic levels with regard both to their opportunities to access information and communication technologies and to their use of the Internet for a wide variety of activities”. Civic networks are regarded as one of such activities, where the Internet has been used to reflect civic life of the particular region. Measuring the digital divide is mainly based on comparative statistics, primarily in an international context. In this paper, results of qualitative observations of the civic networks are considered as a possible indicator of the digital divide overcome in a regional context. 2 STATISTICAL INDICATORS OF DIGITAL DIVIDE IN SERBIA In Serbia, it is still not possible to measure more precisely the effects like digital divide because of a lack of relevant detailed statistical information, but there are some observations, data and estimations published out of official statistical institutions: Fixed plus mobile telecommunication paths - There is 2 700 000 fixed telephone lines in Serbia and 1.5 million users of the mobile telephony. Considering the fact that there are 10 million inhabitants in Serbia this gives about 23 fixed and mobile access paths per 100 inhabitants. -

POLISH COINS IN THE TRIUNE KINGDOM As witnessed by some coin hoards and sporadic finds, Polish coins, starting with those od Casimir IV (1444-1492), began to arrive into the area of Southern Pannonia, i.e. to the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia, early in the 16* c, via Hungary (HUSZAR 1970; 1972). There were some Po- lish grossi in the following coin hoards: Crnac, 1893 (MIRNIK 1981: 127, No. 613); Donji Miho- ljac, 1899 (MIRNIK 1981: 129, No. 620) and Prhovo, c. 1913 (MIRNIK 1981: 134, No. 650). A more considerable influx took place in course ofthe 17* c. and later, as Polish currency was registe- red in the hoards of Ivanec, 1887 (MIRNIK 1981: 152, No. 752); Kotlina, 1954 (MIRNIK 1981: 142, No. 607); Kukujevci, 1907/08 (MIRNIK 1981: 143, No. -
