‘Encore’ a collective of ama- teur singers will be the special guests at next week’s free Senior Citizens’ Christmas Concert. The group has a growing repertoire of opera, classical, folk, musical theatre and humorous pieces — both solos and ensembles. Encore was formed after many of them received tuition from Beatrice Hofer at Kio Kio. Hofer trained in Switzer- land as a singer and voice teacher then emigrated to New Zealand with her husband, a dairy farmer, in 1998. At the time she thought her singing would be put on the back burner, but nothing could be further from the truth. She began to teach singing and is busier than ever. Te Awamutu For Hofer and her student singers this is a long, but Courier rewarding, process. They learn technique, style, memorisation and have to give a polished solo performance.
