Vah- valla sangikädellä avaaja tarjoaa alimman sangitarjouksen. Jos vastaaja tarjoaa esimerkiksi 2♥, avaaja passaa pitkällä hertalla, tarjoaa 2♠ heikolla kakkosella padassa, tai tarjoaa 2NT 20 – 22 ap tasaisella. Vastaajan patatarjoukseen avaaja suhtautuu samalla tavalla, niin herttaväri joudutaan siis kertomaan pykälää korkeammalla tasolla. Tästä johtuen vastaajan patatarjous kertoo paremman so- pivuuden herttaväriin. Partneri avaa 2♦ multi. Tarjouksen ensisijainen tarkoitus on vas- tustajien häirintä. Vastaajan vahva tarjous on kysely 2NT. Avaaja kertoo käsityyppinsä seuraavasti: 2 3♣ = heikko kakkonen hertassa, maksimivoima (esim. ♠ 54 ♥ KQ10975 ♦ KJ10 ♣ 85) 3♦ = heikko kakkonen padassa, maksimivoima (esim. ♠ AKQ1097 ♥ 76 ♦ 1097 ♣ 72) 3♥ = heikko kakkonen hertassa, minimivoima (esim. ♠ 97 ♥ KJ9763 ♦ Q108 ♣ J7) 3♠ = heikko kakkonen padassa, minimivoima (esim. ♠ AK9864 ♥ 76 ♦ 963 ♣ 53) 3NT = 20 – 22 ap, tasainen (esim. ♠ AQ98 ♥ KJ9 ♦ AKJ8 ♣ K9) Kahden sangin kyselytarjouksen jälkeen täyspelivaatimus on voimassa, kaikki tarjoukset alle täys- pelitason ovat kierrosvaatimuksia. Vastauksiin 3♣ ja 3♦ kyselijän kolme avaajan yläväriä on slammihakuinen tarjous pyytäen multiavaajaa kontrollitarjoamaan. Avaaja Vastaaja ♠ 4 ♠ AKQ64 ♥ AJ10863 ♥ KQ64 ♦ KJ5 ♦ Q8 ♣ 964 ♣ AK 2♦ multi 2NT kysely 3♣ 6 k♥, maksimi 3♥ sopii hertan valtiksi, täyspelivaatimus 4♦ kontrolli 4NT ässäkysely 5♦ yksi ässä 6♥ vaikuttaa kotipeliltä Vastaajan kolme alaväriä on luonnollinen täyspelivaatimus. Pelinvienti on yleensäkin hyvä saada vahvempaan käteen, näin vastaajan käsi pysyy puo- lustajilta piilossa, eivätkä he myöskään pääse lähdöstä ”haarukoimaan” vahvemman käden kuva- kortteja. Vastaajan kahdennus on rankaisua. Avaaja tarjoaa kyselyyn alimman mahdollisen luonnollisen väritarjouksen. Avaaja Vastaaja Avaaja Vastaaja Avaaja Vastaaja 2♥ 2NT 2♠ 2NT 2NT 3♥ 3♣ = ♥♣ 3♣ = ♠♣ 3♠ = ♠♥ 3♦ = ♠♦ 3♦ = ♥♦ 3NT = ♦♣ Jos vastaaja kyselyn jälkeen tarjoaa avaajan väriä alle täyspelitason, on se slammi-inviitti ja pyytää avaajaa kontrollitarjoamaan. 5 Avaaja Vastaaja ♠ 4 ♠ 1092 ♥ AJ1085 ♥ KQ92 ♦ KJ1052 ♦ AQ94 ♣ 92 ♣ A3 2 ♠ = two-suiter 2 NT = mitkä värit? 3 ♦ = ♥ + ♦ 3 ♥ = kontrolleja? 3NT = ♦ + ♣ 4♠ =

  • Defensive Bidding Over Multi-Way Club and Strong Club Openings
Defensive bidding over multi-way club and strong club openings General Approach There are a variety of systems including short club, Polish Club, and Carrot Club, Blue Club, Precision Club, Meckwell that basically use a one club opening bid to be a combination of a natural suit, a weak no trump, or any strong hand. The first group I call multi-way club systems, where the opening one club bid can have a hand like a weak no trump. They may also contain any strong hand, but this option is far less likely than a weak no trump. Sometimes they are forcing (Polish Club), sometimes not (short club). The second group is the strong club systems, where the opening one club bid is always strong and shows any hand that has 16+ points. The opening bid is completely artificial. Defensive bidding over multi-way club systems I propose a simple defence to these systems - treat them like a natural 1♣ opener. If you overcall, the advancer can bid clubs as a cue bid. Do not be afraid to make an offshape takeout double when you have at least 4-3 in the major suits and values for a ‘normal’ takeout double. The only changes I would make is to permit a 2♣ overcall to be natural and a 3♣ overcall to be a weak jump overcall. Of course, if 2♣ is natural then you lose your Michaels Cue Bid, so I recommend that you use 2♦ as the Michaels Cue Bid over both minor suit openings. Personally I do this over all 1♣ openings, even when they play Acol.

  • Objective Criteria to Select a Convention
Objective criteria to select a convention Besides pre-emptive bids at 3 or 4 level , we have at our disposal only 10 opening bids, from 1. to 2 NT , to describe all possible hands we might have . How many different kind of hands could there be ? Here start the bad news … One suited hands are 4 , 2 suited hands 6 , 3 suited hands 4 plus , finally , 1 balanced hand . Hands can not be defined only according to their shape , point count is also a discriminating factor . We have therefore to take into account at least 3 point ranges : weak , medium and strong . The total will add up to something over 40 different kind of hands to be described with only 10 opening bids . The first consequence of such consideration , is that we have to give up the ambition , if we had any, to open one specific type of hand with one specific bid. We have to live with the fact that 1 bid will have to describe a little group of hands and not a single specific hand. With more than 40 different hands and only 10 opening bids , we can not do otherwise. In building up a bidding system , we will have to assign to each bid a little group of hands , so that all possible hands are covered.. Each bid will therefore have a different meaning , according to the bidding system used . Existing bidding systems are quite a few and conventions or treatments are even more numerous . How to choose among the abundant offer available in literature ? How to make an objective selection among the various available alternatives ? In order to be able to take a sound decision , we need objective criteria .
