Coronavirus Latest As you will no doubt be aware, Leicester has become the first city in the UK to be put under local “lockdown”. There are reports around a recorded rise in COVID-19 infec ons across the City. Following on from this, the Government have announced that Leicester will not move into the next stage of easing restric ons. This means that non-essen al shops will not re-open as planned on Saturday 4th July. Also included in the announcement is that people who were already shielding should con nue to do so and that movement in and out of Leicester should be restricted to essen al travel only. The Government have stated that this will be reviewed in two weeks me. Leicestershire Police will adjust accordingly providing propor onate policing under the relevant legisla on to help keep our communi es safe. We will con nue our approach of Engage, Explain, Encourage and lastly Enforce. As you would expect, we are working closely with our partner agencies to manage the issues that accompany this announcement. We appreciate a rise in infec on or posi ve test results will cause some concern among our communi es, who may be worried about their loved ones and the impact on them. We know you will remain sensi ve and alert while our Public Health and City Council colleagues carry out their essen al work. Sadly, 2,521 vic ms have lost a combined total of over £8m to coronavirus-related scams - as of the 19th June. Unfortunately, criminals are con nuing to exploit the coronavirus pandemic to defraud innocent members of the public. Currently, coronavirus-related frauds make up less than 2% of all fraud reports received. It's important that people are aware of the very simple steps they can take to protect themselves from handing over their money, or personal details, to criminals.
