    THE FINNISH NATIONAL OPERA AND BALLET IN 2016 This is a shortened Finnish National Opera and Ballet The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is a national arts version of the institution, offering opera and ballet performances and Annual Report 2016. other events to Finns of all ages. Guest performances, Memorable school operas, TV broadcasts and streaming bring the FNOB to everyone all over the country and even the experiences globe. In terms of personnel, the Finnish National Opera and Ballet is a medium-sized opera and ballet company. for everyone In 2016, there were 538 employees on average, representing 36 nationalities. The Orchestra has 112 members, the Chorus has 50 singers, the Ballet has 78 dancers and the FNB Youth Company 12 dancers. Finnish and foreign guest artists appear alongside the FNOB’s own soloists. The FNOB also employs experts from a wide range of crafts specialities, from shoemakers to metalworkers. Our aim is to create a good and inspiring workplace for all professional groups by being equitable, transparent and fair; by offering opportunities for continuing self-improvement; and by supporting wellbeing at work and work ability. The FNOB generally stages four new opera productions and three new ballet productions each year. Added to these are revivals of old productions, resulting in a programme that is different every week and may include dozens of productions in the course of the year. The FNOB performs both established classics and contemporary opera and dance works, especially new Finnish works. All the opera performances are performed in original language and subtitled in English, Finnish and Swedish.

Sébastien Ramirez from France and Honji Wang, who was born and raised in Germany by Korean parents. Their COMPANY WANG RAMIREZ navigates its own borderline between hip-hop and I am grateful to each and every one of you for braving the contemporary dance, defying categories and eagerly exploring new forms. The eye-popping surprise Minnesota cold—perhaps ice, wind and snow—to gather together in Borderline, their Northrop debut, is the use of a rigging system and bungee cords that in the dark to watch dance tonight! The glow of the stage, the exaggerate the dancers’ movements. We are delighted to welcome him, and look forward to supporting his leadership.” Stiefel began his professional career at age 16 with the New York City Ballet where he quickly rose to the rank of Principal Dancer. He was also a Principal Dancer with Ballett Zürich and American Ballet Theater (ABT) where, in July 2012, he gave his final performance. It was described by The New York Times as “daring, explosive, and laced ​ ​ with risk.” The Star Ledger lauded Stiefel “among the greatest dancers America has ever produced.” “I am very fortunate to again have the opportunity to become an Artistic Director,” Stiefel says. “I believe most arts organizations have taken stock during these times and are exploring ways to pioneer, diversify and reinvigorate how they approach their internal culture while seeking to offer current and relevant inspiration for communities and audiences. I am looking forward to helping American Repertory Ballet emerge from these challenging times and to being a part of developing the art form within the organization and the communities we serve.” Stiefel served as Artistic Director of the Royal New Zealand (RNZB) for three years, which followed his position as Dean of the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA).

    Chronology 1950s 1954 - Philharmonic Society of Orange County is founded (then called Orange County Philharmonic Society). 1960s 1964 - South Coast Repertory founded by David Emmes and Martin Benson. In 1965 the company opens a theater in Newport Beach. 1967 - Irvine Master Chorale founded by Dr. Maurice Allard. Under direction of John Alexander, changes its name in 1981 to Pacific Chorale. 1969 - Newport Harbor Foundation formed, the first local group whose primary purpose it was to build a major Orange County cultural center. Feasibility studies conducted determined that Newport Beach would not be an acceptable site. 1970s 1972 - Santa Ana-based organization formed with same goal determined that suitable site would be near confluence of freeways. Nineteen sites examined. 1974 - South Coast Repertory receives commitment of the site for its planned Fourth Step Theater from the Segerstrom Family. Pacific Symphony Orchestra is founded. 1978 - SCR relocates to its newly opened $3.5 million Fourth Step Theater. The Main Stage is named for the Segerstrom Family, major donors to the Building Fund. Guilds system set up under the direction of Georgia Spooner. 1979 - The Segerstrom family donates 5-acre site on which to build the Center. 1980s 1980 - Gary Phillips and Associates organizes fundraising campaign. Henry T. Segerstrom becomes chairman of the Trustees, a special group of directors with responsibility for major fundraising. Len Bedsow named first executive director of the Center. 1981 - The Orange County Music Center (later renamed the Orange County Performing Arts Center) receives a commitment of five acres of land and $1 million cash gift for the design and construction of a major performing arts center from the Segerstrom Family.

    Thursday 24 October 2019 Olympians, sports stars and 34 worldwide dance companies join the biggest ever World Ballet Day (l-r) Tony Adams, Itziar Mendizabal, Mark Ramprakash, Chemmy Alcott and Colin Jackson join The Royal Ballet for #WorldBalleDay ©2019, ROH. In an unprecedented celebration of dance, #WorldBalletDay bought together 34 dance companies from six continents around the world yesterday including The Royal Ballet, The Australian Ballet and The Bolshoi Ballet. During the day this reached more than 100 million people internationally via social media and #WorldBalletDay trended on Twitter. Members of the sporting elite Dame Kelly Holmes, Colin Jackson, Mark Ramprakash, Tony Adams and Chemmy Alcott took part in a ballet lesson and shared experiences with members of The Royal Ballet in a round-table discussion about maintaining positive mental health in professional sport and dance. The Royal Ballet partnered with mental health charity Mind for the day, signing their Mental Health Charter for Sport and Recreation as part of its commitment to fostering positive mental health in the future.
