ICE CREAM SOCIAL Windsor Freer Parents Association Picnic and Parade AT MARY’S SWEET SHOPPE 6 Featured Windsor C-1 School District Staff Member Mr. David Gilmore New Windsor C-1 High School Principal With Ms. Sherri Strauser, Windsor C-1 Assistant Superintendent, retiring at the conclusion of the 2014-15 school year, after 37 years in education, Mr. Jeff Buscher was named her successor for the 2015-16 school year. This began the search for a new high school principal. The selection for this position is Mr. David Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore comes to Windsor High School from Kennett, Missouri, where he served as the High School Principal for the past 4 years. Prior to Kennett, he served an additional 6 years as High School Principal at Hayti High School. Mr. Gilmore holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Missouri State University, as well as a Master’s and Specialist Degree from William Woods University. He is currently working toward completion of his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, which he will complete in 2016. Discussing his decision to become an educator, Mr. Gilmore stated, “Growing up in Hayti, Missouri, the school was everything to our community. There were not a lot of recreational opportunities, restaurants, shopping centers, activities, etc. If you wanted to do something, be involved, or have fun, it was done through the school; it was the hub of our community. At an early age, I became very involved in school activities and I loved every minute of it. That experience and the love and care of teachers and coaches allowed me the opportunity to attend college on a football scholarship. As I went through college, I knew that being an educator would be my career choice. My teachers and coaches were a huge part of why I was inspired and able to attend college; I wanted to become an educator to help other students achieve that same dream. Being the first person in my family to graduate from college, it would not have been possible without a community of caring teachers who made sure that my dreams were fulfilled”. Mr. Gilmore explains his decision in making the move to Windsor C-1, “I am very thankful for the opportunity to be the Principal at Windsor High School. As an educator, you want to provide the best education possible for your students. As a parent, that is what you expect. I wanted to work for a school district that does this year in and year out. Windsor has been recognized as one of the best school districts in the state on a consistent basis for many years and I wanted my family to be a part of a school community that provides and cares for its students in that same manner. I am very thankful to the interview committee, administration, and Board of Education for selecting me for this position. It is a great honor”. In addition to serving 11 years as a High School Principal, Mr. Gilmore was also a teacher, Senior MAP Leader, Head Football Coach, Head Track Coach, Assistant Boys’ Basketball Coach, and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach. As a Head Football Coach, his teams amassed a record of 85-21 in 9 seasons, winning 6 District Championships and reaching 3 quarterfinals, 2 semi-finalists, with a 2nd place State finish in 2002. Mr. Gilmore’s teams produced 3 individuals who played at the University of Missouri, and two others at North Carolina and Kansas State, respectively. One his former players earned All- American status at the University of Missouri and are currently entering his 6th season with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Mr. Gilmore is married to Rachel; they have 3 daughters (Payton, McKenzie, and Riley) and a son (Hayden). 7 SUMMER MAINTENANCE 2015 This summer, the District is having parking lots sealed and re-striped at all campuses.
