  • Pavilion in Progress
1 April 2018 Pavilion In Progress Most of you will have noticed that A User Group event has been held to building work has begun on the Pavil- inform users of the adjustments which ion Extension. The contractor SJT will be necessary during the building moved onto the site on 26th March phase. The big constraint which we and already there is a site compound will all notice is the restricted car park- and excavation work has begun. ing space. It will be helpful if every- 2 body could limit parking on the Pavilion car park as much as possible. Where possible it would be beneficial for users to car share in order to reduce the vehi- cles using the car park. We had some more good news on the funding front in that the Better Derby- shire Dales fund has granted us nearly £3,500 for the project and members of the Grindleford community who provided catering at the recent National Trust Woodland Day have donated £550. We much appreciate this funding, which has helped us finally get the building phase of the project launched. Further Fundraising Whilst we now have a project underway, we did have to delete some items to match available funds to costs. These items we wish to fundraise for and rein- state to the project. They include: • Platform Lift equipment (although the masonry work is being undertaken). • Mini kitchen in new Youth Room. We have not been able to include any existing building refurbishment / repairs in the ongoing scheme. The items we would like to address here include: • Repair the existing pavilion roof.

  • Belper to Cromford Via Alport Stone
www.derbysheritagewalks.com [email protected] Twitter: @DerbysWalks Facebook: derbyshireheritagewalks Belper to Cromford via Alport Stone Distance: 9.5 miles. Time: 4 to 5 hours. Difficulty: Easy moderate – A couple of steeper climbs/descents. Maps: OS Explorer 259 – Derby. OS Explorer OL24 – The Peak District: White Peak Area. Toilets: Belper River Gardens, Black Rocks and Cromford. This walk begins in the centre of Belper, and makes its way cross-country to Cromford. On the way, it visits two of the highest points in the area at Alport Heights and Barrel Edge. Although it reaches heights of over 1,000 feet above sea level, the climbs are all fairly gentle with the exception of a couple of short steeper gradients. Although the first part of the walk goes cross- country along footpaths, the later part of it mainly sticks to roads, with just one diversion away from them to reach the viewpoints of Barrel Edge and Black Rocks. None of the terrain involved is particularly challenging, making this walk suitable for most people. Many of the roads used lack pavements or substantial grass verges, so please take care along these sections of the route and take all reasonable steps to ensure your safety. The start point for this walk is by the traffic lights at the bottom of King Street. With the shops of King Street to your back, turn right and walk along Bridge Street past the Lion Hotel. Originally called the Red Lion, this was one of two coaching inns in the town, the other being the George and Dragon a little further on along Bridge Street.

  • Bus Questionnaire
The Derbyshire Challenge Making difficult decisions together Tell us what you think about our proposals for subsidised local buses and community transport services By 2020 the funding we get from Government will be more than a third lower than in 2010. We’re protecting frontline services and vulnerable people as much as we can, supporting businesses and the voluntary sector and protecting local jobs. But the size of the cuts mean we have no choice about scaling back most of the services we provide – particularly when, by law, we do not have to provide them. It will mean many of the services we provide will change and some will stop altogether. Legally we do not have to provide subsidised local buses or community transport Dial-a-Bus (DAB) ‘shopping buses’. Like every council, we’ve got difficult decisions to make about the cuts but we want local people to work alongside us to make these hard choices. Most bus services in Derbyshire are run commercially without any financial support from the council, but we do pay for buses where there are gaps in service. These are subsidised bus services. So tell us now what you think about our future plans for subsidised local buses and DAB shopping buses. For more information about these proposals or to complete this questionnaire online please go to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/transportchanges Closing date for responses is Sunday 24 April 2016. To see the Cabinet reports about these proposals go to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/subsidisedbuses (See Agenda items 18 and 19). There are four proposals: 1.

  • Buxton on the Move Conference Report
The Buxton Conference 2016 Conference Report Conclusions from the conference Buxton is constrained by its geography. There is very little area left to use as public amenity but the town is growing and, if we don’t plan for that growth now, the town will grind to a halt. All the information gathered during the day, from a range of sources, delivered the same messages: • Shared space and roundabouts should be explored especially at Fiveways (London Rd /Green Lane/West Rd/ High St/Dale Rd junction) • All traffic lights and their function should be reviewed – are they needed? Zebra crossings instead? • A review of all signs should be undertaken; both in the town centre and on the approaches – Are there too many? Are there enough? Do they provide the right information in the right place? • Visual approaches to Buxton need upgrading • Fairfield Road should be moderated – no right turn into Lightwood Rd approaching Buxton; Red Route during ‘rush hours’? • A roundabout should be considered at St John’s Rd/Manchester Rd junction • Car parking needs to be addressed: additional parking is needed, long term parking. Use of private drives and schools should be considered, too • Park and ride is increasingly required at busy times • Requirements for additional coach parking should be addressed • Encourage Peak Rail’s provision of trains to and from the south and more frequent and faster trains to Manchester • Improve road systems, investigate one way systems and cycle routes, consider utilising Duke’s Drive • Bear in mind accessibility when changes are being implemented Conference summary The Buxton Conference 2016 was convened by the Buxton Town Team, supported by High Peak Borough Council, on Wednesday 9th March at the University of Derby Buxton Campus.
