Top 20 T-Schools the Gist of the DQ-CMR T-School Survey Surfaces in the Fact That a New Host of Institutes Have Managed to Get a Place in the Top 20 List Onkar Sharma [email protected] Top 20 T-Schools The gist of the DQ-CMR T-School Survey surfaces in the fact that a new host of institutes have managed to get a place in the top 20 list | A CyberMedia Publication www.dqindia.com August 15, 2014 | 85 TOP 20 T-SCHooLS 1 IIT Madras IT Madras topped the DQ-CMR survey on various parameters and I clinched the number one posi- tion. It is one of the premier institu- tions in the country that scores high on infrastructure, industry exposure, placements, HR, and faculty. IIT Ma- dras has led the list for the second consecutive year. An autonomous public engineering and research institution, it is recog- nized as an institute of national im- portance by the Government of India. IIT Madras is a residential institute that occupies a 2.5 km (620 acres) campus that was formerly part of the adjoining Guindy National Park. The institute has nearly 550 faculties, 8,000 students, and 1,250 adminis- trative and supporting staff. 2 IIT Kharagpur IT Kharagpur significantly im- proved its overall ranking which I shows the institute’s endeavors to compete on multiple parameters. Although IIT Kharagpur was already among the top 10 institutes last year, it has surprised biggies such as IIT Mumbai to secure the second place. It improved its scores significantly on academic environment which mani- fests the image it has built among students and the industry. Besides, the institute performed well on in- frastructure parameter where it was ranked #3. However, on placement front the institute needs to do a lot as it was ranked at #10. It ranked #6 on industry interface parameter but ranked #1 on HR scroes. The institution has graduated to a next level with additions to courses, faculty members, seats, and research labs. The students and alumni of IIT Kharagpur are informally referred Kharagpur has the largest campus festivals: Spring Fest, Kshitij, and to as KGPians. Among all IITs, IIT with 2,100 acres. An initiative of Branding & Communications team of IIT Kharagpur and the students body Branding & Relations Cell led by Dean, International Relations. For more information contact: [email protected] I congratulate the Branding and Communications Cell of the Institute for this novel initiative. Students enjoy the learning experience best when they are challenged. I have often interacted with students, asking them what they thought was the best or worst in a class that they had just attended. And I have often been stumped by their replying that they thought they had “learnt nothing”. Why? I asked them. They said that they did not find the teaching challenging enough. This should leave no one in doubt that we should take another look at the teaching and learning process. Students themselves can be a part of this relook. I have often advocated for student-teachers, often letting them take my own class. The result has been phenomenal, making students involved learners. Only greater involvement on the part of students can ensure their learning. This does not have to happen inside the class always. Sports, extra-curricular activities provide their own challenges. I encourage students to take up these challenges. As these entries show, many of them have indeed taken them up, and realized their enormous potential and talent. Tap your hidden talents and energies. Take up challenges, get involved and enjoy the learning experience Every student is an achiever in his or her own right. Each of them has tremendous potential inside them, and if they pursue their passion with focus and hard work, they will reach their goal.
