RECOMMENDATION Members are recommended to note the contents of this report and the published Integrated Transport Strategy for Norfolk & Suffolk and its relevance to the borough of Great Yarmouth. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 The Norfolk and Suffolk Local Transport Board (New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership) published its ‘Integrated Transport Strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk: A Strategy for Growth and Opportunity’ in May 2018. The document is attached to this report or can be viewed at: https://newanglia.co.uk/wp- content/uploads/2018/07/ITS-FINAL-280618.pdf 1.2 This Strategy is intended to set out the key transport requirements for the two counties, and can influence the priority and resources devoted to particular projects. A number of the proposal themes relate directly to the borough, and the Borough Council is identified as one of the delivery partners for the Strategy. 1.3 This Strategy will also sit above and shape the emerging Great Yarmouth Transport Strategy which Members will also be considering at this meeting. 2. BACKROUND 2.1 The Norfolk and Suffolk Local Transport Board acts on behalf of the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (NALEP) to provide strategic guidance and leadership on transport matters, produce the Integrated Transport Strategy, manage related stakeholder engagement, produce a work programme of individual transport schemes, and provide recommendations on priorities for funding. 2.2 The Local Transport Board comprises a wide range of transport providers and agencies, groups representing businesses, together with NALEP, Department for Transport and the two County Councils. -

The Ohio State University 2003 Examination Committee: Approved by Dr. Eve Levin, Advisor Dr. Geoffrey Parker Advisor Dr. David Hoffmann Department of History Dr. Nicholas Breyfogle ABSTRACT The conquest of the Khanate of Kazan’ was a pivotal event in the development of Muscovy. Moscow gained possession over a previously independent political entity with a multiethnic and multiconfessional populace. The Muscovite political system adapted to the unique circumstances of its expanding frontier and prepared for the continuing expansion to its east through Siberia and to the south down to the Caspian port city of Astrakhan. Muscovy’s government attempted to incorporate quickly its new land and peoples within the preexisting structures of the state. Though Muscovy had been multiethnic from its origins, the Middle Volga Region introduced a sizeable Muslim population for the first time, an event of great import following the Muslim conquest of Constantinople in the previous century. Kazan’s social composition paralleled Moscow’s; the city and its environs contained elites, peasants, and slaves. While the Muslim elite quickly converted to Russian Orthodoxy to preserve their social status, much of the local population did not, leaving Moscow’s frontier populated with animists and Muslims, who had stronger cultural connections to their nomadic neighbors than their Orthodox rulers. The state had two major goals for the Middle Volga Region. -

Sanger On s'entend généralement pour dire qu 'au cours du 12* siècle, c 'étaient les Basques habitant sur la côte espagnole et la côte française de la Baie de Biscaye qui furent les premiers Européens à pratiquer la pêche à la baleine à grande échelle. Selon la documentation, la surexploitation de la baleine franche du Groenland constitue la principale raison du déclin de la troisième phase de la pêche à la baleine à des fins commerciales (après le Labrador au 16e' siècle), l'opération côtière du 17e siècle à Spitzberg. Cet article démontre que la baleine franche noire était bel et bien une cible secondaire importante. Le fait que l'on péchait deux différentes espèces de baleines franche à Spitzberg réfute l'hypothèse fréquemment soutenue que la surexploitation des provisions de baleines noires de la région à l'est de l'Atlantique nord dans la Baie de Biscaye entre le 12e et le 16e siècle est la raison pour laquelle les Basques pratiquèrent plus fréquemment la chasse à la baleine au Labrador.
