And what a year it was! The year had barely begun when we were already saying goodbye to musical heroes gone far too soon. David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Glenn Frey, Leon Russell, Maurice White, Prince, George Michael ... the list goes on. And yet, despite the sadness of these losses, there is much for the industry to celebrate. Music consumption is at an all-time high. Overall consumption of album sales, song sales and audio on-demand streaming volume is up 5% over 2015, fueled by an incredible 203% increase in on-demand audio streams, enough to offset declines in sales and return a positive year for the business. 2016 also marked the highest vinyl sales total to date. It was an incredible year for Canadian artists, at home and abroad. Eight different Canadian artists had #1 albums in 2016, led by Drake whose album Views was the biggest album of the year in Canada as well as the U.S. The Tragically Hip had two albums reach the top of the chart as well, their latest release and their 2005 best of album, and their emotional farewell concert in August was something we’ll remember for a long time. Justin Bieber, Billy Talent, Céline Dion, Shawn Mendes, Leonard Cohen and The Weeknd also spent time at #1. Break out artist Alessia Cara as well as accomplished superstar Michael Buble also enjoyed successes this year. -

RIAA AND GR&F CERTIFICATION AUDIT REQUIREMENTS RIAA ALBUM AWARD General Requirements: The RIAA recognizes the following Album Award tiers: Gold – 500,000 Units Platinum – 1,000,000 Units Multi-Platinum – 2,000,000 Units (increments of 1,000,000 thereafter) Diamond – 10,000,000 Units (increments of 1,000,000 thereafter) Units are defined as follows: Each permanent digital album or physical album sale count as 1 Unit for certification purposes. 10 permanent track downloads from the album count as 1 Unit for certification purposes. 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from the album count as 1 Unit for certification purposes. Requests for certification may be made by email to the RIAA. The following information must be made available: Record Company Label Artist Title Configuration (full-length album, shortform album, multi disc set) Level (Gold, Platinum and/or specified levels of Multi-Platinum) Selection or Catalog Number Release Date Suggested Retail List Price (SRLP): Genre The RIAA certification program is open to member and non-member music companies. An audit consists of verifying requisite sales and streaming levels and then issuing a formal certification report. RIAA certification entitles the authorized record company/artist to purchase official RIAA award plaques bearing the trademarked RIAA hologram seal from RIAA’s licensed plaque manufacturers. All certification audits are conducted, for a fee, by the firm Gelfand, Rennert and Feldman, LLP (GR&F) for the RIAA. If multiple certification levels are simultaneously certified, only one audit certification fee is charged. Sales of albums in physical format become eligible for certification 30 days after the release date. -

John Conway MD Volleyball Interval Passing / Hitting Program General Principles This program is designed to help athletes re-introduce volleyball skills to their rehab program. The program is designed to develop those specific qualities. This program should also be used in conjunction with the Throwing Athlete Exercise Program. The athlete should ice the affected extremity for 20 minutes following all throwing activity. All skills should be performed in the presence of a coach or qualified person to stress proper mechanics. Emphasis should be placed on developing and maintaining proper mechanics without developing symptoms. Under the direction of the therapist or Athletic Trainer, the athlete may progress through the Steps and Phases as tolerated. The athlete should only progress to the next Step of each Phase if he / she was able to complete the current Step without pain or difficulty. If the athlete experiences pain or soreness following completion of the step, take 1 day off and repeat the step again. If no soreness, advance 1 step every day.
