Barton, Ravensworth, East Cowton 9 and Kirkby Fleetham CE Schools Cornerstone Schools Newsletter Building Futures with Love th Friday 25 June 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, On Monday our schools celebrated World Music day by learning about music in many forms from different parts of the world. In my travels around the schools I’ve heard some lovely recorder playing, some interesting African instrumentals, Brazilian Sambas, I’ve seen street dance and a New Zealand Haka and learned about an amazing Ethiopian string instrument called a masinko. Well done everyone – what a talented bunch you are! Coronavirus Sadly one of our schools had to close this week as a member of the school community tested positive for coronavirus. This means that all the children and staff are self-isolating for 10 days and are back to remote learning. It brings home the fact that the number of cases is rising in the area and that we still need to follow the guidance carefully and remain cautious. As you will all be aware, the government guidance states that: Pupils, staff and other adults must not come into the school if: • they have one or more COVID-19 symptoms • a member of their household (including someone in their support bubble or childcare bubble if they have one) has COVID-19 symptoms • they are legally required to quarantine, having recently visited countries outside the Common Travel Area • they have had a positive test • have been in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 If you or your child is unwell and you don’t know what to do you can contact 111.nhs.uk Please keep your child at home and arrange a test for them if they have symptoms. Thankyou for your support with this. End of term events Normally at this time of year we would be inviting parents to a range of end of term events. Sadly it is looking increasingly unlikely that parents will be able to come on to the school site. We will send further confirmation at the start of next week. Y6 Transition days Unfortunately the latest government guidance makes it very difficult for secondary school transition days to go ahead and all the local secondary schools have cancelled their planned transition days. We will work closely with them to ensure a smooth start to Y7 for our pupils. We have also had to change our plans for transition into reception, and our reception starters will now be visiting at times when they will not be breaching the rules about ‘bubbles’. Have a lovely weekend everyone, Kind regards, Headteacher Barton, Ravensworth, East Cowton and Kirkby Fleetham CE Primary Schools are members of Dales Academies Trust, company number 08372064, registered office at: Blair Avenue, Ingleby Barwick, Stockton on Tees, TS17 5BL Ravensworth CE School Ravensworth - Children celebrating achievements this week: Stars of the Week Writers of the Week Class 1: Freddie Art & Ellie Carpenters Cup Miss Pole Class 2: Chloe Dexter & Effie The Monkey Holly Class 3: Kim & Charlotte Callam, Alanna & Charlotte News From Class 3 Life is pretty busy in Class 3 at the moment. We have just started reading our new class novel ‘The 1,000 year old boy’ by Ross Welford. We’ve only read a few chapters, but it is great and has inspired us to start planning a story based on taking some sort of magical potion which give us a special power. Our maths is working on shapes – reflecting, moving them on a grid and recognising their properties. We’ve started learning about the Vikings as part of our history and this week have looked at some evidence and how we can learn about their way of life from artefacts. We even found out about the Viking sword which was found in Gilling West in 1976. I think you may have Archaeological digging finds some archaeological digs in your garden this weekend! Although some of our end of term activities will be curtailed this year, there is still plenty happening for the children to enjoy. The annual tennis tournament starts next week – we cannot wait! Another fantastic week at dodgeball club as we continued to practice our core skills and introduce the catching rule. We have been reminding ourselves of the most important rule – honesty – as well as remembering to stay focused and keep our eyes on the other team at all times! As we have improved, we have begun to talk about tactics in games and most importantly of all we have had an incredible amount of fun. School admin information May we please remind everyone to send details of any appointments, bus changes etc straight to the office and not via dojo as all changes have to be logged via Administrators. As Teaching staff are really busy, there is an opportunity for messages sent via dojo to be inadvertently missed. Milk & juice orders for September will be prepared soon. All current orders for pupils will continue unless we are advised in the next couple of weeks that your child wishes to change their order.
