While the individual title was not in doubt – Howell won by eight strokes – the team championship was pushed to a playoff to decide the winner. Georgia Tech nipped at the Cowboys for much of the day, making up eight strokes with a final-round 276, compared to Oklahoma State’s 284. The Cowboys withstood the charge – Georgia Tech held a five-shot lead with four holes to play – but not by much. Oklahoma State won in a sudden-death playoff. Freshman J.C. DeLeon birdied for the Cowboys, who also had four pars. Oklahoma State’s Charles Howell ran away Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech bettered UNLV’s two-year-old record of 34-under par by three with the individual title and he helped the strokes. Arizona finished two shots back in third place, including a whopping 33-under over the Cowboys edge Georgia Tech in a playoff for final two rounds. Houston finished six shots back (30-under 1,122) on the strength of the final day’s team honors. best round of 16-under. Texas placed fifth with a 1,125 total. Houston’s Chris Morris shot a 66 in the final round to finish second, eight shots back. Three play- ers tied for third at 13-under 275: Northwestern’s Jess Daley, Arizona’s Ricky Barnes and David Gossett of Texas. Re s u l t s TEAM STANDINGS 1. Oklahoma St.*.......... 1,116 7. • Is the Rule in South Carolina's Tourn
The GivingGame In a sport where a “gimme” is often permitted in friendly play, “give to others” is the rule in South Carolina’s tournament play. South Carolina is famous for its hospitality, its outstanding golf courses and for reaching out to help a friend in need. How clever of this state to find a way to combine all of these traits into one wonderful way to have fun. Enjoying a beautiful day in the sunshine on some of the finest golf courses in the nation while rubbing elbows with pros and celebrities turns out to be a great way to raise money for a worthy cause. So South Carolina hosts numerous golf tournaments where the rivalry is fierce, but the rewards to charities bring big smiles. And you certainly don’t have to be a golfer to have a ball at these events. Our heritage is great golf. The best known South Carolina tournament is The Heritage, held attracted the biggest names in golf every year. The each spring for the past 35 years on Hilton Head Island’s Harbour Town Heritage Classic Foundation has donated $8.5 million to Golf Links in the Sea Pines Resort. Te Western Amateur Championship Records & Statistics Guide 1899-2020 for te 119t Westrn Amatur, July 26-31, 2021 Glen View Club Golf, Il. 18t editon compiled by Tim Cronin A Guide to The Guide –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Welcome to the 119th Western Amateur Championship, and the 18th edition of The Western Amateur Records & Statistics Guide, as the championship returns to the Glen View Club for the first time since the 1899 inaugural. Since that first playing, the Western Amateur has provided some of the best competition in golf, amateur or professional. This record book allows reporters covering the Western Am the ability to easily compare current achievements to those of the past. It draws on research conducted by delving into old newspaper files, and by going through the Western Golf Association’s own Western Amateur files, which date to 1949. A few years ago, a major expansion of the Guide presented complete year-by-year records and a player register for 1899 through 1955, the pre-Sweet Sixteen era, for the first time. Details on some courses and field sizes from various years remain to be found, but no other amateur championship has such an in-depth resource. Remaining holes in the listings will continue to be filled in for future editions. The section on records has been revised, and begins on page 8. This includes overall records, including a summary on how the medalist fared, and more records covering the Sweet Sixteen years. The 209-page Guide is in two sections. Part 1 includes a year-by-year summary chart, records, a special chart detailing the 37 players who have played in the Sweet Sixteen in the 63 years since its adoption in 1956 and have won a professional major championship, and a comprehensive report on the Sweet Sixteen era through both year-by-year results and a player register.

He has made seven of nine cuts with a best finish of T20 at the Humana Challenge. Hubbard had an eventful February after proposing to his girlfriend at No. 18 at Pebble Beach after round one of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Two weeks later he was DQ’d from The Honda Classic for failing to register. Hubbard’s previous best position after 18 holes on TOUR was T14 at the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship. The Puerto Rico Open has historically been a stop for future Rookies of the Year. In 2014, Chesson Hadley won en route to being named the 2014 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year. In 2013, Jordan Spieth recorded a T2 finish, one of nine top-10s that would lead to PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year. Chris Smith Smith is looking for his first top 10 on the PGA TOUR since the 2005 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee (T5).
