The Chinese-American Librarians Association (CALA), an emerging international organization, was founded in 1973 and merged with the Chinese Librarians Association of California in 1983. With more than 500 members, the organization is divided into 5 regional chapters: California, Greater Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast. and Southwest. The goal of the association is to promote better communication among Chinese-American librarians as -well as with other librarians. Any individual or institution interested in the goal may become a member upon payme1_1t- of membership fee. CALA awards the Annual Distinguished Service Award and the Sheila S. Lai Scholarship. As a member of CALA, you receive CALA publications including the Journal of Library and Information Science, CALA Newsletter, and the Membership Directory.
