Mshawish is a son of Medaglia d’Oro, who is one of the world’s most important sires, and who has also achieved the unique feat of siring Champion Two-Year-Olds in the U.S., Europe and Australia. On the distaff side Mshawish comes from the immediate family of Champion U.S. Two-Year-Old Filly Halfbridled.” Mshawish is a product of the hugely successful cross of Medaglia d’Oro and his sons over Mr. Prospector line mares, one that has produced no less than 29 stakes winners. The dam of Mshawish is inbred to Mr. Prospector, but these crosses will be in the fifth and sixth generation of his foals, and we can also note that there are already more than 30 grade one winners who carrying three cross of Mr. Prospector, so reintroducing this strain should not cause concern.

SHAMUS AWARD b.c. 2010 by Snitzel – Sunset Express by Success Express Shamus Award made history as the first three-year-old to capture both the Australian Guineas (gr. I) and the W. S. Cox Plate (gr. I). He was also precocious enough to be stakes placed over 1000m on his debut at two, going on to become a multiple graded stakes performing juvenile. Shamus Award is by grade one winning sprinter, Snitzel, the leading stallion son of Danehill’s Champion Sire, Redoute’s Choice, out of a mare by the highly-influential Success Express, also responsible for the current Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds, Mossman. Shamus Award is one of a trio of grade one winners for Snitzel, the other two both being out of Northern Dancer line mares. Sizzling is out of a mare by General Nediym (from the Shareef Dancer branch, and a strain that could be particularly interesting here) and Snitzerland from a daughter of Fraar (by Topsider, a close relative to Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Nureyev). Considering the close relatives to Topsider we can note that Redoute’s Choice and his sons have sired eight stakes winners out of Sadler’s Wells line stallions, from daughters of Barathea, Blevic (by Scenic), Singspiel and Galileo.

Alphabet Soup Fraise Amazombie Gulch Black Tie Affair Little Mike Cajun Beat Precisionist Eldaafer Prized 1996 Breeders’’ Cup Classic Winner AAllpphhaabbeett SSoouupp OFFICIAL 2016 OLD FRIENDS BREEDERS’ CUP PROGRAM Welcome In 1984, under a sunnier sky than anything the Beach Boys ever evoked, I was at Hollywood Park waiting for the gates to spring open revealing the greatest idea in the history of horse racing —the Breeders' Cup. For the uninitiated, the Breeders' Cup is like the World Series, NHL and NBA all in one day. And you might as well toss in the Super Bowl. Over the years, I've attended a dozen Breeders' Cups. I saw Precisionist win the 1985 Sprint at Aqueduct, and Fraise nip Sky Classic in the 1992 Turf at Gulfstream Park, and Black Tie Af fair’s dominating victory in the 1991 Classic at Churchill Downs. Now, they are all buried at Old Friends. And, while their exhilarating athleticism in front of a grandstand exploding with screaming fans still gets my heart pumping, it's their last days, with just a handful of us, that I remember the most. They all showed the same intelligence, grace and courage at the end as they did at the beginning. As we await the 33rd running of the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita, I can walk around the farm and feed carrots to Classic winner Alphabet Soup (1996), Turf winner Little Mike (2012), Sprint winner Amazombie (2011), Marathoner Eldaafer (2010), and dozens of others who participated, including Silver Charm, Hidden Lake, Affirmed Success, Tinners Way, Touch Gold, and Game on Dude.
