AZIZ ANSARI is coming to Australia for his first tour with three very special shows. Comedian and actor Aziz Ansari is best known for his role as the cocky yet lovable Tom Haverford on the Emmy Award nominated series Parks and Recreation playing a small time government employee bent on becoming a “Diddy” like mogul. Considering he's cameo'd in a Jay‐Z and Kanye West music video, counts Quentin Tarantino as a fan and has Barrack Obama 'keeping him humble and hungry', it seems Ansari's real life is doing just fine. In addition to his role on Parks and Recreation Ansari has also had supporting roles on Scrubs. Aziz is also an accomplished (and hilarious) stand‐up and makes up one third of the sketch comedy group Human Giant. Ansari performs his logically surrealist comedy with infectious energy and is one of the best young comedians of the 2000’s. In 2006 he won the Jury Award for “Best Stand Up” at the US Comedy Arts Festival in Colorado. Ansari recently released his second hour long special Dangerously Delicious online and is following this up with the all‐new Buried Alive – an evening of bewilderment and disillusion. Ansari is also keeping busy in the film world and was most recently seen starring in the action comedy 30 Minutes or Less opposite Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride. He will next voice a character in the Twentieth Century Fox animated film Ice Age: Continental Drift, and he’s in production on End of the World, which he co‐stars opposite Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, and James Franco. Mandate Pictures also picked up a comedy feature pitch by Ansari and Matt Hubbard, which he will star in alongside Danny McBride. Additionally, Ansari is developing three films for Judd Apatow and director Jason Woliner. The collaboration with Judd began on Universal’s Funny People, where Ansari created the popular character of ‘Raaaaaaaandy,’ who went on to become a viral hit on FunnyOrDie.com. Ansari also appears in Get Him to the Greek alongside Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, as a co‐worker of Hill’s character. He has had roles in the hit comedies I Love You, Man and Observe and Report. Don’t miss these exclusive shows by Aziz Ansari as they will sell out quickly! www.azizansari.com www.abpresents.com.au For further information, interviews, photos etc, please contact Dianna O’Neill Publicity Phone: 02 9337 2288 Mob: 0418 468 148 Email: [email protected] .

LONG SUMMARY Molly Shannon plays Emily Dickinson in the dramatic comedy " Wild Nights with Emily." The poet’s persona, popularized since her death, became that of a reclusive spinster – a delicate wallflower, too sensitive for this world. This film explores her vivacious, irreverent side that was covered up for years — most notably Emily’s lifelong romantic relationship with another woman (Susan Ziegler). After Emily died, a rivalry emerged when her brother's mistress (Amy Seimetz) along with editor T.W.

  • Andrew Clark: So I’Ll Just Introduce Our Guest, Who You’Ve Been Anticipating for Weeks Now
Andrew Clark: So I’ll just introduce our guest, who you’ve been anticipating for weeks now. To my far right, the director, a member of Human Giant, the brilliant, brilliant sketch group and writer and former child actor Jason Woliner. Clapping To my immediate right, Chris Elliott. Clapping Andrew Clark: So this is our second go through today, where we are going to needle them with questions, but I’m just gonna start out a little bit… Since we just watched Eagleheart, maybe we’ll start there. Can you guys talk about the beginning of the show? I know we talked a little bit about that earlier, about how you came to be involved and how the show has, sort of, progressed over the last few years, the three seasons. Jason Woliner: Yeah, it was… The pilot was written by these two guys, Michael Koman and Andrew Weinberg, who were Conan writers for like, ten years. They had this idea to do a show that was about the making of, like, a terrible action show. And then we… they wrote a pilot and then I read it, I didn’t really know those guys and then I kinda came on to direct it. Then we found out that Chris liked it and we shot it and it didn’t come out great. There were just things we wanted to change about it. So we wound up… when we did the show we threw everything out and kind of, the three of us, Me, Michael and Andrew, we kinda wrote it from scratch and wrote all the episodes together.

  • American Muslim Humor, Secular Aesthetics, and the Politics of Recognition
AMERICAN MUSLIM HUMOR, SECULAR AESTHETICS, AND THE POLITICS OF RECOGNITION Samah Selina Choudhury A dissertation submitted to the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Religious Studies in the Graduate School. Chapel Hill 2020 Approved by: Juliane Hammer Carl Ernst Cemil Aydin Kumi Silva Harshita Kamath Sylvia Chan-Malik © 2020 Samah Selina Choudhury ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Samah Choudhury: American Muslim Humor, Secular Aesthetics, and the Politics of Recognition (Under the direction of Juliane Hammer) This dissertation focuses on the cultural productions of humor by South Asian Muslim men and the ways in which “Islam” is self-constructed and articulated through comedic performance in a contemporary U.S. context. I argue that humor is a mode of secular discourse, in which the ability to laugh at oneself has been disciplined into a prized personality trait of the ideal subject within secular social schemas. In such a humor regime, the gendered and racialized Muslim body becomes a signifier of communal belonging, exclusion, and religious difference. Through a critical analysis of films, television shows, and standup comedy routines by the comedians Aziz Ansari, Kumail Nanjiani, and Hasan Minhaj, I chart the discursive goalposts that demarcate when humor becomes explicitly marked and/or recognized as Muslim, and when these comedians themselves were named and name themselves as such. Under a progressive consensus of recognition, these men step into their Muslim identities through the language and hostile implications of racialization. They cultivate a Right Muslim self that upholds secular ideals like multiculturalism by taming bodily comportments that may otherwise affiliate with Islam outside the legible boundaries of racialized difference.
