General Compositional Standards for Food Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (in English) http://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/topics/foodsafety/index.html 1 Foods shall not contain any antibiotics or chemically synthesized antibacterial substances (substances obtained by instigating chemical reactions to elements and/or compounds through chemical methods, except for decomposition; this applies hereinafter in this paragraph), except for the following cases: (1) When the substance concerned is identical to the food additive determined by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare as having no potential to cause damage to human health under Article 10 of the Food Sanitation Act (Act No. 233, 1947, hereinafter ―the Act.‖) (2) When compositional standards are set forth in 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 below for the substance concerned. (3) When the food product concerned has been manufactured or processed using a food ingredient that meets the compositional standards given in 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 below (except for foods containing antibiotics or chemically synthesized antibacterial substances for which compositional standards are not set forth in 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 below.) 2 Foodstuffs that are all or part of an organism derived by DNA recombination (i.e. a technology that uses enzymes, etc. to cut and reunite DNA, thus creating recombined DNA molecules in which different DNA is joined together, and then transferring this into living cells and propagating them; the same applies below) or that contain all or part of such an organism must be marked to show that the organism has undergone the safety inspection procedures prescribed by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. 3 Foodstuffs manufactured using microorganisms derived by DNA recombination or containing such substances must be marked to show that the substances have undergone the safety inspection procedures prescribed by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. 3 4 Foods for specified health use as prescribed in the Food Sanitation Act enforcement regulations (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Ordinance No. 23 of 1948) Article 21, Paragraph 1-1-xli must undergo the safety and effectiveness inspection procedures prescribed by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. 5 Foods shall not contain substances (including substances produced by chemical transformation: this applies hereinafter in this paragraph) used as ingredients of agricultural chemicals and other chemical substances listed in the table in (1) below. The agricultural chemicals and other Provisional Translation from Japanese Original 2/103 hemical substances stated above, here and also later in this paragraph, refer to substances used for purposes designated by the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministerial Ordinance according to the provision of Paragraph 3 of Article 2 of the Law Concerning Safety Assurance and Quality Improvement of Agricultural Chemicals and Feeds (Law No. 35, 1953), which is stipulated under Paragraph 1 of Article 1-2 of the Agricultural Chemicals Regulation Law (Law No. 82, 1948), with such aims as adding to, mixing with, or infiltrating into feeds (the feeds stipulated under Paragraph 2 of Article 2 of Law No. 35), or medical products to be used for animals, which are stipulated in Paragraph 1 of Article 2 of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law (Law No. 145, 1960). In association with this regulation, a sample of the foods listed in the ―foods‖ column in the table in (2) below shall be tested using the part listed in the ―samples‖ column in the table by the testing methods described in (3) to (17)*. No ingredients of agricultural chemicals or other chemical substances shall be detected in these tests. *Explanation of (3) to (17) testing methods are abbreviated.     KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM & MINERALS Department of Petroleum Engineering PETE 203: DRILLING ENGINEERING LABORATORY MANUAL APRIL 2003 PREFACE The purpose of this manual is two fold: first to acquaint the Drilling Engineering students with the basic techniques of formulating, testing and analyzing the properties of drilling fluid and oil well cement, and second, to familiarize him with practical drilling and well control operations by means of a simulator. To achieve this objective, the manual is divided into two parts. The first part consists of seven experiments for measuring the physical properties of drilling fluid such as mud weight (density), rheology (viscosity, gel strength, yield point) sand content, wall building and filtration characteristics. There are also experiment for studying the effects of, and treatment techniques for, common contaminants on drilling fluid characteristics. Additionally, there are experiments for studying physical properties of Portland cement such as free water separation, normal and minimum water content and thickening time. In the second part, there are five laboratory sessions that involve simulated drilling and well control exercises. They involve the use of the DS-100 Derrick Floor Simulator, a full replica of an actual drilling rig with fully operations controls, which allow the student to become completely absorbed in the exercises as he would in an actual drilling operation. The simulator has realistic drilling rig responses that are synchronized to specific events, like rate of penetration, rotary table motion, and actual rig sounds such as accumulator recharge, break drawworks, etc. It is hoped that the material in this manual will effectively supplement the theory aspect presented in the main course.

ALAM An earlier device (Alam, 1975) for selectively picking up large number of soil or fresh water nematodes was modified and appears to be an improvement over similar devices (Minteer, 1965; Shukla et aI., 1971; Khan et al., 1972) because of its speed and semplicity. The entire apparatus can be easily assembled in any laboratory and does not require any specialised components. Assembley and opera­ tion details are as follows: Construction details: Two L-shaped glass tubes (0.5 cm dia­ meter) of 4 and 5 cm lengths were inserted into the neck of a sepa­ rating funnel 'D' (l00 ml capacity) with the help of an air tight rubber stopper. One of the L-shaped tubes (5 cm length) was con­ nected through a rubber tubing (75 cm length, 0.5 cm diameter) to anoter glass tube' E' (15 cm length, 0.7 cm diameter) which was provided with a fine tip (7 cm length). The other L-shaped tube (4 cm length) was connected through a rubber tubing (0.5 cm diameter) of desirable length, to an aspirator' B ' (syn. filter pump) which was attached to a water tap' A'. Noxious fumes or flammable vapour- Separations are conducted in a fume hood 2. Pressure build-up- Low boiling point solvents and acid/base reactions will produce pressure in the flask. 3. Leaks & jammed taps- Check the functionality of the separation funnel before adding chemicals. Use water to test for leaks around taps & caps. 4. Cuts from glass breakage- Ensure you have suitable retort ring or clamp to mount your flask. Retort rings only should be used >500 mL flasks. Smaller flasks can be clamped on neck. 5. Waste - Refer to waste disposal guide. Label all collection flasks. Section 3 – Procedure It is essential that you know the risks of the chemicals you are working with *before* you begin hands- on work. 1. Know the emergency evacuation signals and procedure. 4. Sixteen members and seven visitors were present. Dr. W. P. Mason, of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. of Troy, N. Y., read a paper on, " Drinking Water and Disease." It was referred for publication. A discussion of the paper, which was.of much interest, followed, and was conducted by the author and Messrs. Pemberton, Jayne and Haines. Mr. Pemberton called attention to the conditions of the water supply of Chester and discussed the effect of Philadelphia sewage upon it. Dr. Bruno Terne presented a paper on "Meat Preservatives," giving a discussion of the ingredients and their effects upon the human system when present in meat used as food. [Read al g/te staled meetinK, keld Aflril 2I, I39L ] Two forms of this process are in use, 6ne dealing with a half litre or a full litre of the water: the other requiring only ioo cc. for the distillation. The writer prefers the former, although some chemists find the latter fully as accurate and more convenient. The following notes indicate the practice of the writer for a number of years, in addition to the instructions given by Wanklyn. The amount of sample used is one-half litre, or, in some very impure waters, a less quantity of the sample diluted to half a litre with pure distilled water.
