This support helps make our mission possible, and we could not do this without your thoughtful, marvelous help. Rosary Appeal for the Protection of EWTN Work: I urgently need your prayers please to help us in our work. We are very busy with our new EWTN “Spiritual Warfare” film on the Prodigal Son. Pope Francis has spoken on "the prodigal son" theme many times, and its a powerful story for the modern day. Please pray we get our work completed as things can be complicated by this Corona virus threat. The month of May is a very important to us, because during the next 4 weeks most of the filming work will take place. This is why Campbell & I are appealing to you to pray hard for the success of this work. I ask, in particular, that you please pray for us during the: • Daily Rosary: Ask our Holy Mother Mary to bless & protect us; • Holy Mass: Include us in your intentions and ask Jesus to bless and protect us (and our work) with His precious blood; • Divine Mercy Chaplet: Offer up this prayer intention at 3pm and during the Hour of Mercy given to us by Jesus; • The Angelus: Please remember us at 12 noon and/or 6pm as you pray the Angelus; Ask Mary to cover us with her mantle. To this extent, the rule is deficiently erroneous and must be corrected. Summary: EWFN is anonprofit public charity dedicated to advocating the teachings oftJie Roman Catholic Church, which include the belief that voluntary sterilization, contraception, and abortion are evil. The government is forcing EWTN and others to call these things good and provide them despite moral and conscience objections. Although it claims to provide exemption, this rule literally reduces religious exemption to churches tliereby forcing EWTN and anyone else with valid objections to comply.

    “THE THIRD TIME’S A CHARM”: SLOW LEARNERS IN THE CHURCH Last week’s column discussed how a single letter in an esoteric Greek word made all the difference in defining Catholic dogma about Jesus. By all accounts, Nicaea was a success. And yet, as is so often the case, people were slow– very slow– to assimilate its decrees. In fact, the Arian crisis continued to brew even after the priest’s teaching was declared heretical. So, we jump ahead for a moment to the Council of Ephesus in 431 A.D. (the 3rd council) which forbade any changes to the Creed promulgated at Nicaea under pain of condemnation. Now, fast forward to Chalcedon in 451 A.D., when an impasse of sorts was reached. In view of the fixed nature of the creed according to Ephesus, bishops felt that to add or change the Creed would violate an earlier council and were extremely hesitant to do so. And yet it was inadequate. Ephesus (431) had decreed: “It is not permitted to produce … any other creed except the one which was defined by the holy fathers who were gathered together in the Holy Spirit at Nicaea. Any who dare to compose… another creed.” They weren’t joking! In the nick of time, an archdeacon in Constantinople rose, and proposed a brilliant way forward. An earlier Council held at Constantinople in 381 A.D. had largely gone unnoticed to the wider Church. This is not unsurprising in its day. It’s not as if the Council decrees were broadcast on EWTN! This is part of the problem in reconstructing historical events accurately.
