OUR OPINION Memorial Day, 2019 olitical winds may shift, but what hasn’t changed in our nation’s 243-year history P is the solemn need to give those who died in our stead their due. And so we devote ourselves this weekend to the memory of the men and women who gave all, so that the nation might endure. We thank them in our hearts and with deeds — ceremonies, testimonials, personal recollec- tions. And we thank God for them, and for the spirit that coursed their veins. Words can’t measure up to what they did. All we can do is recite the supreme brav- ery so that it is never forgotten. Repeating it doesn’t make it more real, but it does offer us, the living, some comfort. Our offerings in today’s paper fit that bill.
