Temporada impresionante y corta de cualquier calificativo positivo. Sin duda él ha sido la diferencia entre una FSU que se quedaba siempre a las puertas a una FSU que lo ha conseguido. Siendo un novato. Una de las cuestiones ahora es si este será el último año de Jameis como colegial o sí decide posponer la NFL. Siendo probablemente su última temporada, Jimbo debe aprovecharlo e ir a por todas, porque tener un jugador así en tus manos es algo que normalmente, solo pasa una vez en la vida. #15 MARIO EDWARDS JR.: Tuvo una de las actuaciones defensivas más dominantes que recuerdo en un campeonato nacional. Probablemente fue el mejor jugador del partido e hizo ver las estrellas a todo un Greg Robinson. Después de aterrizar en Tallahassee con un descomunal hype desde el instituto, no había cumplido como Freshman, pero el año pasado ya fue de menos a más, terminado la temporada con un rendimiento espectacular. Si desarrolla todo su potencial, es probablemente el mejor jugador de este roster MARIO EDWARDS JR. (DE) sin contar a Jameis Winston. FLORIDA STATE Tocando el cielo Hace un año, Florida State veía como el mundo del College Football perdía la fe en ellos. Así lo reflejaban los principales rankings de pretemporada. Tanto la AP como USA Today, principales rankings de pretemporada, dejaban a los Seminoles fuera del todo, haciéndolo de mala manera. Un año más tarde, encaran la temporada 2014/2015 como indiscutibles número uno de la nación, gracias top ten. No podemos culparles, pues los Seminoles, con Jimbo a la cabeza, llevaban años fracasando y, lo peor de obviamente a la consecución del último campeonato nacional. Encontrar un prodigio en la posición de QB como Jameis Winston, un roster plagado de talento NFL, un calendario sin ninguna piedra en el camino más allá de Clemson e incluso la reordenación de la ACC, han hecho posible que los Seminoles acabaran con la temporada perfecta al terminar el año como imbatidos, algo que no hacía un equipo campeón JIMBO FISHER (HC) desde la Auburn de Cameron Newton. Por esto y mucho más, no solo les ha sido devuelta la confianza, sino que también gozan del privilegio -o no- de partir como indiscutibles favoritos para repetir título. En ataque los Noles están comandados por el Heisman Trophy, Jameis Winston. La irrupción de Winston se remonta a la pasada primavera, dónde arrasa en el Spring Game provocando, casi ipso facto, la salida de Clint Trickett (backup de EJ Manuel y aspirante a la titularidad) a West Virginia, dejándole la titularidad en bandeja. Una vez comienza la temporada, simplemente arrasa en su primer partido lanzando para 356 yardas, 4 TD's y solo dos pases incompletos en 27 intentos, números de consola. De la misma manera que la empezaba, la acababa con un drive ganador ante Auburn para llevar el NC a Tallahassee. En solo su primer año como titular, logró comandar el ataque de FSU de manera mucho más efectiva que dos Seniors como EJ Manuel y Christian Ponder, que acabaron en la 1ª ronda del Draft de la NFL. En un equipo campeón e invicto, funciona todo. Y no iba a ser menos el backfield y la Línea Ofensiva. Detrás de una Línea Ofensiva de la que retornan cuatro titulares (solo el Center Bryan Stork que da el salto a la JAMEIS WINSTON (QB) NFL se queda sin repetir, -será sustituido por Austin Barron-), el juego de carrera fue una auténtica apisonadora. Devonta Freeman, al superar las 1.000 yardas, se convirtió en el primer RB de los Seminoles en hacerlo desde nada más y nada menos que Warrick Dunn. Entre James Wilder Jr. y Karlos Williams, no solo superaron las 1.000 yardas si no que se fueron a más de 7 yardas por carrera. Lo dicho, una fiesta y un atracón de yardas. Sin embargo, esta temporada pierden a Devonta Freeman y a James Wilder, que dan el salto a la NFL. En cualquier caso, FSU se caracteriza por el next man in, siendo en muchas ocasiones, una solución bastante mejor. Karlos Williams, un híbrido de LB y Safety que no funcionó en defensa, ya dejó destellos de calidad el año pasado y llevará el peso del juego terrestre de los Noles, acompañado por Ryan Green, Mario Pender y el recién llegado Dalvin Cook, que apunta muy buenas maneras. Se han ido muy buenos jugadores, pero seguramente son bajas que no vayan a notar, el sistema prevalece por encima de ellos y los sustitutos son posiblemente aún mejores. Nada de qué preocuparse. FLORIDA STATE El cuerpo de receptores contará con algunas variaciones para Winston y los suyos. La marcha más notoria es la de Kelvin Benjamin, que pese a aportar cosas diferentes por su tamaño y su habilidad en la red zone, tampoco debería ser una baja especialmente sensible. Kenny Shaw, que tuvo una carrera bastante sólida pero que nunca llegó a romper como se esperaba, también dice adiós. Rashad Greene dio el año pasado ese paso adelante que se le demandaba y probablemente, fue el mejor Nole en los dos partidos más importantes del año; Clemson y Auburn. Este año, será, sin ninguna duda, el go-to guy de Winston. A partir de aquí, ciertas dudas sobre el resto de receptores. ¿Volverá Christian Green a ser un jugador importante o seguirá cuesta abajo y sin frenos? Jesus Wilson y Kermit Whitfield han demostrado ser grandes retornadores y sprinters pero, ¿podrán entrar en RASHAD GREENE (WR) la rotación como receptores?. En este caso si se puede aventurar que probablemente dos recién llegados como Ermon Lane y Travis Rudolph -éste último dominador absoluto del UA Game y mayor late bloomer de la pasada generación de HS- pueden tener mucho protagonismo. No podemos olvidarnos del TE O'leary, que volvió a Tallahassee cuando podría haber sido, fácilmente, un pick de segundo día en el pasado Draft de la NFL. De nuevo, pese a las bajas, los que vienen por detrás parecen dar garantías de futuro. Valga la redundancia, el next-man in es la nota predominante de la unidad defensiva. Pierden a Jernigan, Joyner, Brooks, T. Smith o C. Green entre otros. Lo que en otro equipo sería algo abrumador, en FSU simplemente es un “que pase el siguiente” y desde luego que, los “siguientes”, vienen pisando fuerte. Tal es así que la mayor baja en la defensa de los Noles es la de Jeremy Pruitt, el actual DC de los Bulldogs de Georgia. Podemos decir que tenía una defensa “NFL” jugando frente a equipos, mayoritariamente, muy inferiores. Es cierto, pero era obvio que era una defensa muy bien trabajada en la que cada uno sabía lo que debía hacer en todo momento. Al final el mundo es un pañuelo, y Jimbo, discípulo de Nick JALEN RAMSEY (DB) Saban, ve perder a uno de sus coordinadores a Georgia como ya lo hiciera Bowden, viendo perder a Richt para ser el HC de Georgia. Su sustituto será Charles Kelly mediante vía interna (promoción), sin querer mirar hacia afuera para una contratación tan importante. Kelly, apenas tiene experiencia como DC más allá de serlo en Georgia Tech de manera interina durante el año 2012. Tampoco es que Pruitt tuviera mucha experiencia, pues el año pasado fue su primera temporada como DC. La Línea Defensiva pierde a Jernigan, pero probablemente gana mucho si Mario Edwards es el Mario Edwards que vimos en el partido ante Auburn en el National Championship. Dominante es la palabra; excelente a la hora de parar la carrera y además, sin ser un pass-rusher, puede ejercer continuamente presión sobre el Quarterback del equipo rival. Prototípico DE en una 3-4 en el siguiente nivel, puede oír su nombre en los puestos nobles de la 1ª ronda si vemos su mejor versión. A Jernigan lo sustituirá Eddie Goldman, que abandonará el puesto de DE para volver al FLORIDA STATE interior de la línea, su hábitat natural, haciendo compañía a Lawrence-Stample. Se espera que en el lado opuesto a Edwards, Casher (de una vez por todas) se haga con la titularidad y aporte ese atleticismo y velocidad para batir al RT rival por el exterior. En el cuerpo de Linebackers, el único titular en retornar es el Mike Terrence Smith. Todo hace indicar que el Will será Reggie Northrup, que ya tuvo bastante protagonismo el año pasado desde la banca. El lado fuerte se lo disputarán entre Eligwe (teórico favorito), y Hoskins.
