Community Relations ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION AR 1325(a) The principal or designee shall review advertising and promotional material to be distributed through the schools to ensure that it complies with the provisions of Board policy and administrative regulations prior to approving the dissemination of such information. Authorized material/information may be disseminated through school- sponsored publications or by students on a voluntary basis. All advertising and promotional information distributed through the schools shall identify the name and contact location of the sponsoring group. All surveys or questionnaires requiring student or parent/guardian response must have prior approval of the Superintendent or designee. District services and activities involving commercial products will not include the distribution of unsolicited merchandise for which an ensuing payment is requested. Sitka High School, as the holder of a television transmission license, shall operate said station as an educational, non-profit, non-commercial station, not in competition with other local media. The Station will be student operated with teacher support as a hands-on experience in broadcasting, to showcase student work, and to fulfill educational transmission needs in partnership with Mt. Edgecumbe High School, the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka, Sheldon Jackson College, and potentially other appropriate community organizations. Governance of the station will be by a community advisory board made up of the following representatives: KTNL representative KCAW representative KIFW representative Daily Sitka Sentinel representative High School Principal or designee Two High School classroom teachers Sitka High School Student Body official U.A.S. Sitka staff representative Mt. Edgecumbe High School staff member or student Sheldon Jackson College staff member The station shall remain as a functioning part of Sitka High School's educational program with the Principal retaining responsibility for its overall management in a similar fashion to other activities. Daily management of the station will be delegated to a staff member designated by the Principal. The Advisory Board shall oversee the operations. Two student managers and the staff manager shall work directly with the community board to determine the overall direction of the station. Also, this board shall review the programming work of the student and staff managers, advising them as needed. ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION (continued) AR 1325(b) Meetings of the Advisory board will be held as needed at the High School, at least one per year. Additional operational regulations may be developed with the assistance of the Advisory board. SITKA SCHOOL DISTRICT Implementation Date: March 4, 1996 .
