The Tour will consist of coaching clinics at the following colleges: Duke University, University of North Carolina, Virginia Tech UCLA. Augusta State Coaches will have the opportunity to visit each campus, watch training sessions, attend coach’s clinics to learn the latest training techniques and also have the opportunity to have a Question and Answer session with the basketball coaching staff. The tour group will also conduct sessions called “Time Outs” in which we will share ideas and experiences within the group. Key Note speakers will be invited to attend these sessions. Also as part of the tour we will look to attend high school practices, NBA pre-season games and much more. So if you want to further develop your coaching ability, learn the latest trends and tactics from the NCAA or are just a fan of the game, come be a part of the 2011 USA Coaches Tour and meet some of the great coaches of College basketball including Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Seth Greenburg and Ben Howland. He has a thorough knowledge of basketball having played college basketball in the United States for four years and also spending two years at the Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League before his career was cut short due to a back injury. David’s experience enables him to organise all aspects of travel, including competition which includes games/tournaments, sanctioning with governing bodies, flights, accommodation, transport, and all sightseeing opportunities. COACHING CLINIC REVIEWS UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA The perennial power house of ACC basketball, UNC has a long history as one of the best programs in the country winning 6 NCAA Division 1 National Championships. Coach Roy Williams is winner of 2 NCAA championships and has a winning record of 614-155 in 22 seasons as head coach of the Tar heels with a record 18 NCAA final 4 appearances. The Coaches Tour will attend two full UNC practices, attend Q/A sessions with UNC coaching staff and attend clinics on areas such as Strength and Conditioning, Point Zone Defence, Shooting drills, Fast break drills and Defensive Stations. VIRGINIA TECH Virginia Tech has seen a resurgence of its basketball program under coach Seth Greenberg. During the 2006-2007 regular season, Virginia Tech beat Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium and also beat top-ranked North Carolina in Blacksburg. The Hokies went on to beat fourth-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill that same season. The Virginia Tech Coaches Clinic will allow coaches the opportunity to learn from Head Coach Seth Greenburg and other Head Coaches from Local universities. The Coaches Tour will also watch two full VT training sessions. AUGUSTA STATE UNIVERSITY Augusta State has a long been a powerhouse in the Peach Belt Conference with 8 NCAA 2 appearances. Augusta State has two current Australian players on their roster in Kyle Armour (Perth WA) and Ben Purser (Perth WA). Head Coach Dip Metress has turned this program into a national power in his 5 years in the program. 2009 He was named PBC Coach of the Year with Augusta State ranked Number 4 nationally. Assistant Coach Robbie Mckinlay is another Aussie on the roster a former ABA player with Sutherland Sharks. The coaches tour has been invited to visit the facilities, watch Augusta State conduct a training session and a Q/A session with the coaching staff. This close in session will gain a real insight in college basketball. LANDER UNIVERSITY Lander University competes in the Peach Belt Conference of the NCAA 2. Under 3rd year Head Coach Jeff Burkhamer the Bearcats are reinventing its program. Coach Burkhamer has a winning record of 71% before taking over at Lander. The coaches tour has a great opportunity to visit the facilities, watch a full Lander training session and an informal round table discussion with the coaching staff. DUKE UNIVERSITY Long regarded as the greatest college program of all time, Duke University under the legendary Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski has won 4 National Championships and 11 final fours. Coach K has coached the US National team since 2005 winning gold medals at the 2008 Olympics and 2010 World Championships. Coach K is a Hall of Fame Coach and regarded as the best of all time. At the Duke Coaching Clinic the coaches tour will watch two full training sessions, Q/A with coach K himself, lectures from the Duke coaching staff and evening video and lecture sessions. CAL STATE LONGBEACH Long Beach play out of the Walter Pyramid Stadium one of only three Pyramids in the US and truly an amazing venue. The Men’s basketball program has had 8 NCAA tournament appearances, competing in the Big West Conference. Head Coach Dan Monson has personally invited the USA Coaches Tour to attend his training session, visit the facility and sit down with his coaching staff for an in depth one on one discussion about coaching Division 1 basketball. UCLA UCLA participate in the PAC-10 Conference and have a long history as a high performance program. Head Coach Ben Howland is rebuilding this once dominant program as he did at Pittsburg and Northern Arizona. Entering his seventh year as the Bruins' head coach in 2009-10, Howland has led UCLA to three straight Pacific-10 Conference titles (2006-08) and three consecutive Final Four appearances (2006-08). Last year, Howland guided the Bruins to a 26-9 overall record and a 13-5 league mark to place second in the Pac-10. His Bruins have finished in the top three in the rugged Pac-10 for five consecutive seasons.     MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Dear Wolfpack Community, Welcome to our home game tonight as we welcome the Perry Lakes Hawks. Our home game crowd numbers have been fantastic so far, so I thank you for getting behind both teams in this unusual season. This season is a great opportunity for us to keep basketball alive and ticking in this state as many other states haven’t been able to play at all. It also means we can prepare for next year and experiment with our game night experience. The club has some big things planned for game nights next season so you may see some new initiatives tested over these last few home games. It is difficult for me having the dual roles to engage with our fans as much as I would like to on game night as I’m sure you can understand coaching the men is a huge focus for me on game nights. However, after the game please feel free to introduce yourself to me or come up for a quick chat. The players on both teams also enjoy meeting our members and fans and are always happy to give the kids a high five or an autograph. So please don’t be afraid to interact with them when you can. For the adults, the players are always accessible for a drink or a chat after the game upstairs in the Wolves Den. Not many sporting events can you attend and get to interact with the players in a social setting after the game so please come up and meet the Wolves.

    It has been a busy few weeks in the Hawks Nest with Ben Purser breaking the club record for games played against the East Perth Eagles on July 10th. A special presentation will be made to Ben at our home game against the Willetton Tigers on Friday July 23rd. We have our new bar opening for NBL1 West games in the Ellis room. This proved to be a big success on opening night with many spectators taking the opportunity to watch the game from behind the glass listening to the commentary on the big screen while enjoying a beverage. Last weekend also saw our league take part in Indigenous Round and our teams proudly wore the uniforms designed by Phil Walley-Stack who attended our game on July 11th and did a Welcome to Country and explained the story around the uniform design. School Holidays have seen the Hawks/Redhage Basketball Camps underway with nearly 300 young basketballers attending across Bendat Basketball Centre and Lords. A large contingent of our NBL1 West players are coaching and passing on their skills and knowledge. We have our Hawks Quiz night fundraiser approahing on Saturday August 7th so get a table together and if you can donate any prizes please contact us. Inevitably when the words ‘musical theatre’ and ‘hard- er’ are put together people start pulling out shows with the likes of West Side Story, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and finally Cats! So at the end of 2011, we decided let’s put our hands in for Cats. Due to a sad turn of circumstances we were unable to secure a theatre space for 2012 and thus we had to cancel our 2012 production, this, for a student society, put a large dent in our momentum and sadly we ended up losing two key members of our committee.
