In mid August, we welcomed over 20 new faculty – a mix of international and Turkish teachers. We had a great two weeks of orientation and then all of us took advantage of the Bayram holiday to rest up and prepare for the start of school. This year we have the largest prep class in many years and a predominant theme in our schools is growth. When I arrived here about 3 years ago there were 356 students in the high school, about 750 K-12 and a little over 50 dorm students. Our IB program hosted 14 students – the largest ever group. This year we will have 475 high school students, almost 1100 K-12 and 100 dorm students. Our IB numbers have jumped dramatically as well, with almost 60 kids in the program and projections are for almost 100 within two years. This has placed all of our facilities under a great deal of pressure (the cafeteria is exceptionally loud and busy!!) -- we are working hard to maximize the use of our rooms and planning for future growth. Very soon we expect to be at around 600 in the high school and 1200 throughout, which will be about our maximum capacity.
