The Turkish Education Association (TED) carries out its activities on three main axes by establishing schools and raising highly-qualified students, providing equal opportunities in education by awarding scholarships and contributing its views to the Turkish education system. The Turkish Education Association (TED),the first and pioneering civil society organization in HISTORY education in Turkey, was established on January 1st, 1928 by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his brothers in arms. They lit the OF torch of the Association in a period of struggle with all sorts of poverty and ignorance in order to spread and increase quality in education. TED The emblem of TED has got its crescent from the Turkish Flag. TED carries out school development, monitoring and evaluation processes to identify and support the strengths and improvement at TED Schools and to guarantee education quality.

Program Development

TED prepares course books to raise education quality in its schools. Currently, there are 65 course / supplementary books, book sets and teacher’s books published by TED and used at TED Schools. TED also supports teachers and specialists at TED Schools with materials produced for specific purposes.

20 Human Resources

TED carries out the recruitment processes for the staff at TED Schools centrally through standard procedures. During recruitment process, written examinations and/or oral interviews are held for all applications received over the Human Resources Application System on TED website. TED believes that investing in the professional development of teachers directly raises teaching and education quality. Within this framework, orientation, pre-service as well as in-service and online training courses are organized for the education staff every year.

23 TED SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

TED Symphony Orchestra is the first and only amateur symphony orchestra in Turkey. The school band, established in 1965, was renamed as the Wind Orchestra of TED Ankara Schools in 1994.

The Orchestra started to be referred to as TED Symphony Orchestra upon including the string instruments in 2010. It has given many concerts since it was established and has been highly-favored by audience.

24 TED SCHOOLS SPORTS CLUBS

TED Sports Clubs have been developed to enable students of all ages to develop interest in sports, the raise decent, healty and qualified athletes with competitive strength and to provide more students with different sports opportunities. The sports clubs have also been created to ensure the philosophy that education cannot be based only on academic performance. TED Ankara Kolejliler Sports Club, which has given inspiration to Turkish sports within the past 60 years, particularly in the fields of bsketball, has also pioneered the other sports clubs.

The Education and Science Journal supports teachers and academics in their professional development and in disseminating their work to wider scientific audiences. Published since 1976 as a peer-reviewed journal, the Education and Science Journal has been indexed by the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) since 2007.

26 International Education Forum TED has a long and illustrious track record of working on educational initiatives and programmes at all levels both within Turkey and overseas. Utilising this experience, TED is particularly proud of its active contribution to the national debate by organizing International Education Forums. The Internatonal Education Forums, the first of which was organized in 2008, have an aim to contribute to the intellectual accumulation and future policies of Turkey by hosting politicans, scientist, educators, instutions and organizations from different countries. With a theme anticipating the future; quantum physicist and futurist Michio Kaku was invited as a keynote speaker to the 4th International Education Forum.

TEDU has implemented active, interactive, problem-based, application-oriented instruction, with a shift from teaching to learning and has enriched the learning environment to incorporate higher order thinking skills into the courses. Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has been established to provide support for TEDU members in that sense.

One of the first and most advanced examples of the contemporary e-university model in the world is used at TEDU.
