Icelandic Stoner Rock Outfit Volcanova to Release High Octane Single Volcanova Jun 23, 2020 14:24 UTC Icelandic stoner rock outfit Volcanova to release high octane single "I'm Off" Volcanova will release the single "I'm Off" Friday, June 26. Following "Sushi Sam", released in May, "I'm Off" is the second single from the Icelandic stoner rock outfit's upcoming debut "Radical Waves", to be released August 21. With the single "I'm Off", Volcanova hits the perfect middle ground between YOB- inspired psychedelic rock and high octane, fuzzy sludge. The single will be premiered by Outlaws of the Sun on June 25. Volcanova is back with a new single. The Icelandic power trio will release the single "I'm Off" June 26 on all digital platforms. "I'm Off" is the second single leading up to the band's upcoming debut "Radical Waves", out on The Sign Records August 21 on digital, vinyl, and CD format. While starting off with a psychedelic, dreamy, and almost jam-like guitar riff laid down by Samúel Ásgeirsson, "I'm Off" soon shows it's true face and turns into a full-blown mastodont of fuzzy sludge, with Drummer/vocalist Dagur Atlason shouting "We're gonna keep you all night, you'll never get out alive!" Þorsteinn Árnason (Bass/Vocals) further explains the song: "This is a song full of uplifting moments with epic guitar solos, underpinned by headbanging bass grooves! I'm Off is all about the fun and tells the story of how to keep the party going because for obvious reasons, life shouldn't be boring, it's a party." "I'm Off" will be released on all digital platforms June 26 and premiered by Outlaws of the Sun the day before the official release. Volcanova's debut album "Radical Waves" will be out August 21. • Brazilian/American Trio São Paulo Underground Expands Psycho-Tropicalia Into New Dimensions on Cantos Invisíveis, a Global Tapestry That Transcends Place & Time
Bio information: SÃO PAULO UNDERGROUND Title: CANTOS INVISÍVEIS (Cuneiform Rune 423) Format: CD / DIGITAL Cuneiform Promotion Dept: (301) 589-8894 / Fax (301) 589-1819 Press and world radio: [email protected] | North American and world radio: [email protected] www.cuneiformrecords.com FILE UNDER: JAZZ / TROPICALIA / ELECTRONIC / WORLD / PSYCHEDELIC / POST-JAZZ RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 14, 2016 Brazilian/American Trio São Paulo Underground Expands Psycho-Tropicalia into New Dimensions on Cantos Invisíveis, a Global Tapestry that Transcends Place & Time Cantos Invisíveis is a wondrous album, a startling slab of 21st century trans-global music that mesmerizes, exhilarates and transports the listener to surreal dreamlands astride the equator. Never before has the fearless post-jazz, trans-continental trio São Paulo Underground sounded more confident than here on their fifth album and third release for Cuneiform. Weaving together a borderless electro-acoustic tapestry of North and South American, African and Asian, traditional folk and modern jazz, rock and electronica, the trio create music at once intimate and universal. On Cantos Invisíveis, nine tracks celebrate humanity by evoking lost haunts, enduring love, and the sheer delirious joy of making music together. São Paulo Underground fully manifests its expansive vision of a universal global music, one that blurs edges, transcends genres, defies national and temporal borders, and embraces humankind in its myriad physical and spiritual dimensions. Featuring three multi-instrumentalists, São Paulo Underground is the creation of Chicago-reared polymath Rob Mazurek (cornet, Mellotron, modular synthesizer, Moog Paraphonic, OP-1, percussion and voice) and two Brazilian masters of modern psycho- Tropicalia -- Mauricio Takara (drums, cavaquinho, electronics, Moog Werkstatt, percussion and voice) and Guilherme Granado (keyboards, synthesizers, sampler, percussion and voice).

NO GIGS DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN NO MUSIC. The ultimate ‘mixtape’ to help get you through Covid-19 isolation. We wanted to put something out there to share some love at the moment, to give a bit of an escape to everyone in this absolutely bizarre time that we all find ourselves in. So here it is! A 100% free compilation with just 200+ songs! All the tracks have been donated and used with permission. If you dig a song, please check out the band, ‘Like’ their Facebook page, let them know and share the love with others. Please remember after isolation is done, also support the bands by going and seeing them live! There are songs crossing all sorts of genres including psych, fuzz, stoner, grunge, doom, sludge, punk, hardcore, grind, death, thrash, heavy rock, garage, a few acoustic tracks for good measure, and more. Massive thanx to all the bands involved, as well as a few others that have helped reach out to bands they work with and do amazing things in the industry, including: - Chris Maric (Maric Media) - Warren Gibson (Plug Music Agency / Mongrel Records) 1 | NO GIGS DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN NO MUSIC - Anthony Blayney (Your Mate Bookings) - Richard S Jones (Sheltered Life PR) - Tim Price (Collision Course) - Dan Williams (Wild Animals Records) - Jeff Byrd (Pig Baby Records) - Désirée Hanssen (Lay Bare Recordings) - Nadia Lloyd (band management) + Mike Foxall (The Art Of Fox - for the ‘No Gigs Does Not Have To Mean No Music’ Album art) and as this turned into such a massive undertaking, anyone I have forgotten, thank you.

FAOUDA WA RUINA: A HISTORY OF MOROCCAN PUNK ROCK AND HEAVY METAL by Brian Trott A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements of a Degree of Master of Arts In History at The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee May 2018 ABSTRACT FAOUDA WA RUINA: A HISTORY OF MOROCCAN PUNK ROCK AND HEAVY METAL by Brian Trott The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 2018 Under the Supervision of Professor Gregory Carter While the punk rock and heavy metal subcultures have spread through much of the world since the 1980s, a heavy metal scene did not take shape in Morocco until the mid-1990s. There had yet to be a punk rock band there until the mid-2000s. In the following paper, I detail the rise of heavy metal in Morocco. Beginning with the early metal scene, I trace through critical moments in its growth, building up to the origins of the Moroccan punk scene and the state of those subcultures in recent years.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's influence (loud and sloppy garage-blues) was still felt throughout the country, as proven by the Immortal Lee County Killers in Alabama with The Essential Fuck-Up Blues (2001); the Black Keys in Ohio with The Big Come Up (2002); and by the Kills in Florida, playing the version popularized by the White Stripes on No Wow (2005). The Fiery Furnaces (4), formed by Matthew Friedberger and Eleanor Friedberger, siblings from Chicago who relocated to New York, exhibited a versatile and multi-faceted style on Gallowsbird's Bark (2003). Anti- crooning vocals and spiked guitar riffs as well as wildly unstable dynamics evoked the Rolling Stones at their most drunken/deranged, or Captain Beefheart's Magic Band fronted by Janis Joplin. At the same time the exuberant neglect of their arrangements was reminiscent of Pere Ubu. Blueberry Boat (2004) stretched out into longer and more ambitious songs, collages of genres and tours de force of arrangement (including electronic keyboards) that were meant to create a new form of musical theater. That form came to life on Rehearsing My Choir (2005), a work structured as a dialogue between an older woman and a younger one over a substratum of eccentric and cacophonous sounds.
