Cardinals’ Chirps…  Last game... The Naturals caught fire in the second half of Tuesday’s opener, striking for 17 runs from the 6th through the 8th to run away with the 19-4 win. After NW Arkansas plated a pair in the 3rd, the Cardinals jumped in front in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI single from SS Delvin Perez, a run- scoring grounder from 2B Brendan Donovan and a go-ahead sac fly by C Ivan Herrera. Herrera added an RBI single in the 5th, opening the lead to 4-2. The Naturals, though, struck for six in the 6th, seven in the 7th and four in the 8th, batting around in each inning to swing their way to the 19-4 final.  What’s the rush?... Tuesday’s marathon game marked the longest 9-inning game in team history at four hours and seven minutes. Interestingly, it is the second time this season that record has been broken, as the Cardinals and Wind Surge played a previously-record-setting four-hour-one-minute game on 5/8. Prior to that game, the longest 9-inning game in team history had been three hours and 59 minutes, played on 8/17/13 in Midland.  Delvin deliverin’… SS Delvin Perez extended his 16-game on-base streak with an RBI single and a triple on Tuesday, reaching base in every game since 6/11 and batting .397 (27x68) with three homers, two doubles, three triples, six RBIs, seven walks and 13 runs. He’s hit safely in 14 of those 16 games, including a career-high 11-game hitting streak from 6/12-24. In a torrid month of June, Perez is batting .333, with three homers, three doubles, three triples, eight RBIs, six steals and 17 runs in 22 games.  Gorman goes to Memphis… St. Louis on Monday promoted INF to AAA-Memphis, where he debuted on Tuesday with a 1x2 night. The Cardinals #2 prospect and the #30 prospect in all of baseball, Gorman was batting .288 with 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs through 43 games with Springfield this year. Just 21 years old, Gorman ranked among the league’s best in home runs (6th), hits (t-4th) and total bases (5th, 90) at the time of his promotion. He was named the Double-A Central Player of the Week for 6/8-6/13, hitting .346 (9x26) with an astounding seven home runs, 12 RBIs and eight runs in the six games that week, including setting Springfield’s all-time regular season single game record with three home runs in one game on 6/12 vs. Arkansas.  Whitley begins MLB Rehab... RHP Kodi Whitley began a Major League Rehab Assignment at Hammons Field on Tuesday. The 2019 Springfield Cardinal has gone 0-0 with a 4.80 ERA in 16 big league appearances since debuting with St. Louis on 7/26/20. He has been on the IL since 5/30/21. Bird Seed…
