There is a traditional Easter morn- ing greeting that some Christians, especially the Orthodox, offer to each other on this day: “Christ is Risen!” To which the response is, “He is Risen indeed!” This ancient phrase echoes the greeting of the angel to Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joses as they arrived at the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus: “He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said.” (Matt 28:6) To say that “Christ is Risen” is a statement of belief or con- fession of faith. His Resurrection is a truth that does not change and so we use the present tense, “Jesus is Risen” to proclaim his power over sin and death for all time. Cele- brating his Resurrection invites us to reflect upon the great gift of forgiveness for our sins and the pledge of eternal life FEAST OF FAITH that we received on the day of our Baptism. Today with Christians all over the world, let us follow their example. Let us also stand at the empty tomb and believe… and then have the courage to proclaim the good news of the Resurrection. This Easter, may what we believe in our hearts, profess with our lips, be seen in the work of our hands and the quality of our daily lives. Alleluia! Let us pray for one another, Fr.
