Our journey through Lent and is over as we celebrate Easter Sunday and the Resurrection of the Lord. There is a traditional Easter morn- ing greeting that some Christians, especially the Orthodox, offer to each other on this day: “Christ is Risen!” To which the response is, “He is Risen indeed!” This ancient phrase echoes the greeting of the to and Mary the mother of James and Joses as they arrived at the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus: “He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said.” (Matt 28:6)

To say that “Christ is Risen” is a statement of belief or con- fession of faith. His Resurrection is a truth that does not change and so we use the present tense, “Jesus is Risen” to proclaim his power over sin and death for all time. Cele- brating his Resurrection invites us to reflect upon the great gift of forgiveness for our sins and the pledge of eternal life FEAST OF FAITH that we received on the day of our Baptism. Today with Christians all over the world, let us follow their example. Let us also stand at the empty tomb and believe… and then have the courage to proclaim the good news of the Resurrection. This Easter, may what we believe in our hearts, profess with our lips, be seen in the work of our hands and the quality of our daily lives. Alleluia!

Let us pray for one another,

Does it matter who arrives first or who comprehends most readily? Faith has never been a footrace, and speed or alacrity has never been the measure of success. What’s important is not when or how we get to the tomb—or get to the point, for that matter. What’s important is that we get there. What’s important is that sooner or later we arrive at Easter morning and give our testimony. After all, the church needs a witness.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Empty Tomb, the triumph of life over death, of love over hate, of sacrifice over greed. No amount of hate, insult or rational “proof” can defeat it. EASTER SEASON FOOD DRIVE

The Easter season officially begins with Easter Sunday and we wish everyone a blessed Easter Season. What better way to honor the spirit and hope of the Risen Lord than by helping those less fortunate this spring. The St Vincent de Paul Society will conduct a cash/check only donations drive (in compliance with Parish Covid 19 guidelines). The need continues to be critical for many of our neighbors who can’t afford food or a variety of daily living supplies such as: pa- per products, soap, and toothpaste, etc. St Mary parishion- ers demonstrated their overwhelming support of our com- munity during the 2020 holiday season. Once again we put our faith and hope in your generosity during this blessed Easter season.

You may place your donations in the Alms for the Needy box on the wall, to the left of the main front entrance doors. Or you are welcome to mail checks to the address below.

Please make your checks payable to: Society of St Vin- cent de Paul. “Food Drive” should be noted in the memo field of your check.
