On Air As a long term resident of Hong Kong, I have witnessed the many areas where ESF alumni have contributed and Michael Lipin enriched the vibrancy of our city, through Island School commerce, the arts, legal systems and social services. In this edition, we highlight four such individuals from the media field, who represent the inspiring educational ethos experienced by many who come through ESF. As you read through the experiences of Michael, Ernest, Rani and 04 Nicole, they have in common the sense of tenacity and resilience, while working towards their dreams. All of them found the springboard for those dreams at ESF, with each providing the space for exploration and On The Beat development of personal interests, nurtured with rigorous academics. Living in Hong Kong, one will connect invariably with someone who Ernest Kao has attended an ESF school, or who is connected to ESF as a parent or South Island School staff member. Such a connection was one of the reasons my husband and I selected the ESF system. -

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited take no responsibility for the contents of this announcement, make no representation as to its accuracy or completeness and expressly disclaim any liability whatsoever for any loss howsoever arising from or in reliance upon the whole or any part of the contents of this announcement. 2015 INTERIM RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT INTERIM RESULTS AND DIVIDEND The Board of Directors announces that for the six months ended 30 June 2015, the (unaudited) Group’s underlying profit attributable to equity shareholders (before the fair value change of investment properties) amounted to HK$5,291 million, representing an increase of HK$261 million or 5% over HK5,030 million for the same period last year. Underlying earnings per share were HK$1.60 (2014: HK$1.54 as adjusted for the bonus issue in 2015). Including the fair value change (net of non-controlling interests and deferred tax) of investment properties, the Group’s reported profit attributable to equity shareholders for the period under review was HK$9,846 million, representing an increase of HK$386 million or 4% over HK$9,460 million for the same period last year. Reported earnings per share were HK$2.98 (2014: HK$2.90 as adjusted for the bonus issue in 2015). The Board has resolved to pay an interim dividend, which is not subject to any withholding tax in Hong Kong, of HK$0.38 per share (2014: HK$0.34 per share) to shareholders whose names appear on the Register of Members of the Company on Tuesday, 8 September 2015. -

Those television industries discussed in this thesis transact in an extensive neo-network of flows in talents, financing, and the latest forms of popular culture. These cities attempt to become media capitals but their status waxes and wanes, depending on their success in exporting their Asian media productions. What do marital arts dramas, interactive game-shows, children’s animation and teenage idol soap operas from East Asian television industries have in common? Through the systematic use of TV formatting strategies, these television genres have become the focus for indigenous cultural entrepreneurs located in the East Asian cities of Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei to turn their local TV programmes into tradable culture. This thesis is a re-consideration of the impact of media globalisation on Asian television that re-imagines a new global media order. It suggests that there is a growing shift in perception and trade among once-peripheral television industries that they may be slowly de-centring Hollywood’s dominance by inserting East Asian popular entertainment into familiar formats or cultural spaces through embracing global yet local cultures of production. -

It examines the ways in which the regime reconfigures the daily existence of urban citizens, and moreover, the intense competition among Pearl River Delta (PRD) cities. Taking a transnational perspective from below, it reveals how the denial has affected a particular population on the move and more importantly, unsettled the civil society. By theorizing “carescapes” as a heuristic device, it trace the ways in which the transnational circulation of rent/capital travels across borders at the cost of care and needs. It illuminates the multiple displacements of care: the displacement of reproductive space and nested dependency relations; the displacement of urban residents to make room for the elite visitors; the displacement of citizens on a transnational scale, including both the underprivileged migrants and the elite expatriates who struggle to stay put in the liquid labor market. -
