Lake Mohawk German Christmas Market| Sparta, NJ

Enjoy authentic German food such as German sausages, sumptuous soups, goulash and sauerbraten. Hand warming hot chocolate, apple strudel, Linzer tarts, gingerbread men, and warmed mulled spice wine (Glühwein) are prepared among the festive choruses of local school choirs and entertainers.

The event was conceived seventeen years ago and is now recognized as the largest annual Christmas Market in the State of New Jersey to be run specifically in order to donate back to the community. The idea was brought to life in 2001 by a group of volunteers who desired nothing more than to raise funds for local charities while creating a unique public event along the idyllic boardwalk of the Lake Mohawk Country Club.

Lake Mohawk and its surrounding countryside has been a magnet for immigrants of German decent. Especially the Bavarian village architecture, local shops and restaurants still show the influence of its people’s heritage. Nostalgic about the German Christmas tradition its founders were ambitions to bring what they loved to America.
