Normally, golfer 3 will be able to hit the ball closest to the hole. Not surprisingly, this is the technique most often used by professionals.

We have four different swing lengths 8-4 o’clock , 9-3 o’clock , and 10-2 o’clock . I haven’t included 7 o’clock because this shot is too short. Beyond 10 o’clock you have a full swing. These four swings will produce four different distances. On average, a golfer carries three wedges: SW, PW, Lob wedge or gap wedge. For a golfer with three wedges, with these four different swings we can now create 12 different distances.

The table below shows an example of a tour players’ swings based on the 10-2 O’clock clock system: 10-2 O’clock 8-4 9-3 10-2 Full Sand Wedge 20m 35m 55m 80m Gap Wedge 30m 50m 75m 100m Pitching 40m 65m 90m 110m Wedge

Imagine that the length of your swing is from your left arm on the backswing and your right arm on the follow through. If you need to increase or decrease the distance you can reduce or add length to your left arm swing. This will give you 36 different distances from using this simple system. Practice this at the driving range to work out how far each swing goes before taking it to the course. Good luck!

WORLD RANKING POINTS UP FOR GRABS

Since 2013, the BNI Indonesian Golf Tour (IGT) co-presented by OB Golf and Ancora Sports has accommodated amateur players wanting to hone their skills while gaining competitive experience. However, from 2016, in addition to being an arena in which to practice, the IGT has also become a place for players to reap points to improve their position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The IGT has been registered as one of the national events that awards points towards this world ranking. In 2017, the IGT will offer eight events with WAGR points up for grabs, making it a great opportunity for amateurs to get a ranking in the world.

THRILLING, CHALLENGING AND A TEST OF PATIENCE

Before joining the event, Akmin set a target to reach the final. “Even I get into the final, I would like to see met Bobby (Cahyo Adhitomo), the defending champion,” said Akmin. His wish came true. Not only did Akmin reach the final and meet Bobby, the 32-year-old also went home with the trophy and a green jacket from the 14th Credit Suisse Amateur Match Play Championship 2016. Akmin finally defeated Bobby after 38 holes in the final. “It was not an easy game. Bobby had experience in the match play event, and he won it twice,” said Akmin. It was Akmin’s debut in the match play tournament. “Playing here it was felt very different. It feels exciting, challenging, and it tested my patience. However, my coach gave me advice. He asked me to assume it is just an exercise, not the real game. If you failed in one hole, you can improve in the next hole. That’s what I did,” added the West Java athlete. The advice delivered him the prestigious title. Rizchy Surbakti of South Sumatera and Cahyo, who were the top contenders, suffered 4 defeat by Akmin in the quarterfinal and the final. Rizchy’s defeat was perhaps most painful. Leading 2-up approaching the last four holes, the former national athlete toppled from 1st place after Akmin posted three birdies in the remaining holes to win by one. Against Bobby on the 36th hole, Akmin faced his toughest struggle. After taking the lead, 2-up over the first nine holes, Bobby managed to equalize. It was all square - a score that lasted until the 36th hole, then continued on to extra holes. On the 38th hole, Akmin, who was experiencing fatigue, finished with par while Bobby made a bogey. “Playing in the match play event, having a good skill is not enough. You also have to have a good mental. Today my mental helped me win the event,” said Akmin, who started to play golf in 2007. 5 Illustration : Fadil | M.Rizal
