In his tenure, DG has led the Bruins to a Scenic West Athlet- ic Conference (SWAC) Championship, two Region 18 Championships and two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Top 20 finishes. Nelson has coached the Bruins to the best record in school history and best ever winning percentage . With Nelson as head coach, 112 of his players have moved on to compete and study at four-year institutions, with 19 Bruins joining the professional baseball ranks--one even moving on to a Major League Baseball World Se- ries team . Last season, the Bruins posted an overall record of 36-18, finishing with a 22-10 mark in the SWAC. SLCC The Nelson File won hosting rights for the Region 18 Baseball Champi- onships by claiming the SWAC regular season title, and SWAC Conf/Reg District the Bruins finished second at the District I Champion- Year Record Record Finish Finish ships having claimed hosting rights for that tournament 2004 31-26 20-20 4th/4th as well . 2005 37-19 26-14 3rd/4th 2006 29-23 19-16 4th/4th Coach Nelson has compiled a 327-186 overall record 2007 33-25 23-17 4th/4th at SLCC, 217-132 in SWAC competition . DG has devel- 2008 39-20 27-13 3rd/4th oped Bruin Baseball into one of the premier junior col- 2009 26-29 16-22 4th/4th lege baseball programs in the entire nation . 2010 38-18 27-12 3rd/3rd 2011 49-16 28-12 2nd/1st 2nd Prior to joining SLCC as an assistant coach in 2000, 2012 45-10 33-8 1st/1st 2nd Nelson was an assistant at Dixie State College on its 2013 35-19 23-13 3rd/4th SWAC Championship and NJCAA National Runner- 2014 36-18 22-10 1st/2nd Up team . He also served as a hitting coach for the St . George Pioneerzz in 2002, and worked as a graduate assistant at Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1998 and 1999 . Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and English at BYU . He and his wife Jodi are proud parents of four daughters . 6 Assistant Coach Derek Waddoups Coach Waddoups enters his eighth season as assistant base- ball coach for SLCC Bruin Baseball . His duties include recruiting coordinator and hitting coach, along with coaching the catching and supervising the strength and conditioning and position player speed development programs . Winning the 2014 Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, the Bruins finished with an overall record of 36-18 and an excellent mark of 19-7 in the SWAC .
